Admittedly, “When else will we get to stay in a yurt?” was pretty much the deciding factor on this bed & breakfast. We checked in and were led to a different yurt than we reserved (oops! I think they're still working out some kinks). However, this other yurt was still well-equipped with a 3-piece bathroom, king size memory foam mattress, and kitchenette (sink, mini-fridge, microwave, & toaster oven). The yurt had a pop-up dome to vent (if needed), and window coverings that you can remove to have fresh air flow. Sunset from the yurt, facing the lake, was gorgeous! Since it was late April, we had 3-4 different space heaters that we could crank up to get cozy as well as lots of blankets. The innkeeper told us she was planning to install HVAC units to accommodate the warmer summer months. We definitely recommend wearing socks or slippers as the concrete floor can get kind of cold on bare feet and there are only so many area rugs. Also, keep in mind: (as of our stay) when you stay in a yurt here, you don’t get the classic “breakfast” as in “bed & breakfast” like you do in the house. You do get a continental-style breakfast in a picnic basket that you can assemble yourself in the yurt. We knew all of this when making our reservation: we were "roughing" in in a tent after all (haha!). Our breakfast consisted of yogurt, granola, some fruit, and because we lucked out we got 4 fresh eggs and a microwave “egg poacher” to make our own English muffin sandwiches (huzzah!). Since we expected continental breakfast but we got eggs, we were pleasantly surprised. We only stayed one night, but it was fun and definitely memorable.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the egg poacher! That was a new experiment and it will become a staple now as we have had good feedback on it. Thanks for being so informative to future guests - it's very helpful for those who have yet to experience something like a stay in a yurt - as they are brand new in our area and can range from a true camping experience to what you found at Yale Manor. We are learning from all of our guests how to improve them and make them as comfortable and exciting as possible. I have to admit that besides the fact that the NYS Health Department won't allow us to serve breakfast to our yurt guests out of the Manor House kitchen, it's a good equalizer for those trying to decide between the amenities of the yurt vs the Manor. And also, thanks for the tip on the slippers! It's still a bit like camping in that way - there are some adventurous aspects to being in a yurt vs a typical structure. We do plan to have HVAC units installed, but the timing is still under discussion, so future bookers should check on the timing. Thanks for the wonderful review.

Very clean and comfortable home, great location for vineyards, Menkenzie Child's pottery, and scenic lake views. Feels like home and Katherine is very knowledgeable about the area, enjoyed chatting with her after the delious home cooked breakfast, loved the blueberry pancakes! Loved waking up and seeing the lake out the window and watching her horse in the field. Wish I had more time to relax in the tub and lounge in the spa like bath robes, maybe next time...

Yes, a must! I recommend a tub at sunset so you can lie there and watch the colors change out the west window over the lake. It's an unparalleled experience. Glad you enjoyed the blueberry pancakes - it's one of our favorites too. The secret is in the Amish butter in the batter and the pan. Grass fed butter is a fantastic fat (I know, an oxymoron in today's world, but true nonetheless!). We simply love sharing this beautiful home with our guests. Soon we'll be able to take people for sunset pontoon cruises again - can't wait! Thanks for such a wonderful review.

We had a great time. The Yurt was everything we expected. The owners were great. We knew exactly what to expect and their willingness to make sure we had everything we needed was outstanding. We were there during the off-season so didn't expect to find much to do but we were wrong. Again the owners came through and helped us to find restaurants, shopping and available sights. If you are into glamping we highly recommend the yurts at Yale Manor. Service was friendly and thorough. Facilities were clean and well maintained. We had some winter weather (winds/snow) move through and we were snug and warm in the yurt. A glamour adventure for sure!

Thank you so much for this glowing review! You left the place better than you found it and that is evidence of the incredible people you are (at least in my book!). It seems like a small thing, but believe me, you are rarified. Can't wait to see you both again. I owe you a sunset boat cruise next time!

My fiancee and I drove up here from SE Ohio in a day on our motorcycles. We usually stay in Geneva, but they were booked. On sort of short notice, we did some investigating on the internet and came across this place. Very nice location and the owner/operator, Kathy, was very accommodating about our arrival time and mode of travel. The parking was convenient for the bikes and very close to the door. As it was late when we arrived, Kathy was kind enough to get us a snack although we certainly did not expect one. The house is pretty far removed from "civilization" so just grabbing a quick bite out somewhere was not an option, but the location is the attraction here. I have read the reviews from people griping that the house is not right on the lake. Well, learn to read, because Kathy does not hold out the house as being right on the water. There is a very nice doc on the water and boat house. It is, all things being relative, very close. In any event, the house and surrounding grounds are just gorgeous.
Kathy was very helpful regarding my fiancee's need to eat gluten free. We whipped up some homemade guacamole and Kathy shared a bit of wine with us on arrival.
We got an Uber to visit a couple of wineries in the area. The house is very close to some of the top-rated wineries in the area. We particularly like 3 Brothers. Later that day, Kathy took us for a boat ride. We enjoyed the decor of this house and the room we stayed in was very nice. In the morning, while cleanup was taking place, we sort of poked our heads into the other rooms and found them all to be very nice.
We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this place. We will certainly return at some point in the future. Kathy is an excellent hostess and we are grateful we decided to try this place out.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a lovely and detailed review. We really got a chance to spend time together during your stay as there is a lull in the Finger Lakes at the beginning of August - a GREAT time to visit the area and lovely to have had the opportunity to really share your adventures and the loveliness at Yale Manor. You two really know how to travel! Next time, be sure to catch one of the yurts when you stay - everyone is raving about them and it perfectly suits your pallette, I believe. All four are now open and we just love them.

Take care until your return, Kath & Phil

Yale Manor is well worth visiting. The home is beautiful and the rooms are quiet and comfortable. My wife and I went for a special weekend there rather than Niagara on the Lake as we usually do each year and we are glad we did. Things are quiet this time of year around the finger lakes and Yale Manor proved to be the perfect escape. Hats off to Katherine and her husband Phil for being great hosts and pleasant company at our morning breakfast.
I highly recommend taking a wine tour with one of the local services and try to visit Mackenzie-Childs while there. There's more than enough restaurants in the area. (We recommend Belhurst Castle for dinner. Great entertainment at the nearest winery and brewery minutes away from the Manor.
We'll definitely visit again. Next time we plan on staying in one of the yurts on the property.
Thank you again Phil and Katherine!
PS: I have traveled the world and stayed at the finest hotels on all continents. I know quality when I experience it. You will have a quality stay at the Yale Manor!

Room Tip: All rooms in the Manor are wonderful. For a different experience try one of the yurts on the property...
