“Outstanding bed n breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2011

Stayed two nights (Oct 16 & 17th) during our trip to New York Finger Lakes wine country.
Beautiful well maintained old time house was well equipped for our stay.
Our host were gracious and we really enjoyed their daily breakfast menu.
This is the place to stay when in the Finger Lakes!

Stayed here with my wife. First off, it was the only B&B I could find about 1 month before Presidents Day weekend. For that reason, we were happy to get the room(s). We were however disappointed.

The good:

1. Breakfast was really good.

2. Wifi worked as it it should.

3. There was a pool table that was fun to play.

4. Walking distance to town (see below for more).

The bad:

1. When we checked in the door was unlocked and nobody was there. Note said to call in order to check in. Seemed odd at the time, but that was the theme of the weekend. Owners were never around except for a couple of minutes at breakfast. We expected to be able to discuss recommended activities with the owners...

2. The rooms did not lock, but we were told "we've never had a problem". Group home next door with people sitting outside smoking was not very reassuring.

3. Our rooms (William Fox with 2 separate bedrooms) were about what we expected EXCEPT the website said "private bath". Didn't say anything about it being across the hall. We have to get dressed every time we needed to use the restroom. It's called the William Fox 2 bedroom suite - which to me implies the bathroom is within at least one of the rooms.

4. The bed was horrible. It sunk towards the middle and was very uncomfortable.

5. Town was pretty run down. Not much to do. The restaurants didn't seem very appealing. We won't be going back to Penn Yan any time soon. This is obviously not something related to the B&B but might interest those thinking of staying here.

Room Tip: Do not choose the William Fox Suite.

stayed there for a weekend. Room on first floor, VERY NOISY! Bad bed, sunk in towards middle, carpet dirty. There really shouldnt be a bedroom on first floor awake at 6:30 - 7 am from kitchen noises or other guests sitting right outside our door.. Breakfast was AWESOME! Never really saw owners. They kept to themselves. Popped out during breakfast. Charged you for a soda or a beer!! CRAZY! Not a real cozy B&B feel like I'm used to. Run more like a hotel. Troubled youth home right next door & the doors on B&B are NEVER locked even when entire house was empty. Owners went out both nights for hours and our rooms & B&B were unlocked! Well just saw the B&B for sale!

I can't imagine getting the best service from a proprietor that is more interested in dumping his property. Looking for another B&B for next year!

Room Tip: Do not stay in the Harry Fox room - first floor!

We did one of the packages for the mid week where you got a voucher for dinner and wine tastings and it worked out great for us. We did the wineries by car. It is very in town, so you could walk to near by restaurants even a drug store. Breakfast were very good, my husband loved there Crème Brule French Toast, and I loved there blueberry waffles. Our Room was on the first floor one of two offered in the package. The bathroom was next to the kitchen so if you don't mind being up early which we don't it was fine. We had a choice of early or late breakfast which was nice, most places don't give you that. We did early and got out to the lake before wine tasting.

The Inn was decorated so beautifully and tastefully for Christmas, I felt like I was back in time. I received a tour of the mansion and each room is uniquely decorated, spacious and comfortable. The amenities were very thoughtful - pool table, complimentary beverages, fire places, board games, valuable advice and information on attractions and restaurants... Cliff and Michele are such gracious hosts - the breakfast was AMAZING!!! We'll go back again and again.

Room Tip: Just call - they are very sweet and personable!
