This wasn't the freshest sushi around. Kumo is better.
I used delivery service and when it arrived the sushi was not cold.
The hot stuff that was supposed to be hot was not hot

We have eaten at No. 1 Sushi and ordered from the restaurant using GrubHub. The food is always good whether at the restaurant or via delivery and the delivery is reliable with regard to time and service. The food is carefully packed and hot items are kept hot. Great choice!

Upon entering, we were greeted warmly, and seated quickly. The location offers a regular menu, but we were there for the buffet. Our friendly server explained the process and placed two papers on the table to check off what items we wanted. The first one was for different salads, soups, appetizers, and desserts. The second one offered an assortment of different sushi and rolls. The process is to try up to three or four items at a time, then order more. New sheets of paper are given when a new order is wanted. One should not order to much at once because there would be to much platters of food on the table, and if there is extra food left over, it will be paid for as a penalty. This somewhat cuts down on food waste. One can mix and match any category throughout their eating time. The platters are well organized, the food is prepared fresh and very delicious. I suggest to order different sushi that the table can share so it gives a chance to try more different ones, and the eaters will not fill up so fast. Truly, my experience at this location was amazing and the amount of food that we ate was a real value. The staff is helpful, and friendly. I will be returning.

Soup, salad, sushi and dessert! A good value. Rolls, sushi and sashimi all prepared well. Service was not bad either. I'll be back!

No. 1 Sushi was suggested and recommended to my wife and I as one of the better restaurants serving “all you can eat” sushi close to where we live in Rockland County, NY. Located in Pearl River, it may be a drive if one is not familiar with the area. Like most restaurants these days, it is one of a few establishments located in the Towne Plaza strip mall on North Middletown Road.

The store front is quite unassuming while the inside premises, it’s décor and appointments, doesn’t do much to separate itself from most, if not all, other Japanese restaurants in existence. The all-too-familiar small sushi bar immediately located by the entrance and a number of tables lining the property as it extends to the back. On the day of our visit, a weekday immediately after work, the place didn’t fill up until we were in our second or third serving.

Now to the most important part--the food. No. 1 Sushi was recommended because of their “all you can eat “ sushi which is $20 per person on weekday evenings and a few dollars more during the weekends. The regular menu is extensive, proposing quite a few options of the usual rolls, bento boxes, noodles, sushi and sashimi. The buffet menu, of course, is a much scaled down version, but still offers a bit of a selection.

We ordered a few appetizers, some noodles and a number of sushi and rolls. All, including the salad, but excluding the sushi and rolls, were served in a small plate, i.e. one serving, so we had to order some in duplicate since there were four of us in our party. The appetizers were fine, if not served to increase our anxiousness for our main entrees. The sushi and rolls, while seemingly prepared appropriately and satisfying, lacked a certain authenticity. And by “authenticity,” I mean similarity to higher end establishments found in NYC. And though it appears one can’t really mess sushi up, No. 1 Sushi’s sushi and rolls seem to miss an ingredient or a certain preparation that prevented me from deeming it one of the better ones I’ve had. Nevertheless, our meal served the purpose and pacified our hankering for some sushi. The place can be pricey but the buffet would be the option of choice especially for those who love sushi and definitely see themselves having more than one or two orders. The servers were pleasant and while they did get busy as the evening progressed, they seemed to try to be as attentive as they can be to everyone they were serving.

Overall, I would recommend No. 1 Sushi for those looking for some Japanese cuisine in the area. Their menu and fare may not be as impressive as those in similar establishments in NYC, but they still hold their own especially when it comes to their buffet offering.
