There is not much in the way of dining in the Pawling area, but Karen’s is a real bright spot. It is only open for breakfast and lunch and is really diner type fare but is extremely good. The parking lot is usually packed and you might have to wait for a table around noon. Karen’s is very popular with the locals (some eat there every day) and also attracts a lot of business from traffic on Route 22.

Karen just updated her menu and she has some original creations that are quite good. Her version of the Philly steak sandwich with horseradish and pepper jack cheese was very spicy and good. And you can’t go wrong with the cheeseburger deluxe. Breakfast is available all day (she closes at 3:00 PM) and there is a nice selection of omelets.

The kitchen is tiny (the whole place is not very big) so you sometimes have to wait a few minutes for your meal, but it is worth it. If you are from the area there will probably be someone there you know. Karen will sometimes circulate and chat with people she knows and check on how your meal is.

The prices are good, the food is good and the atmosphere is friendly. Karen’s is a great option for an informal meal.

I've eaten breakfast here about a dozen times. The food is delicious and the staff are so nice.

I used to go here everytime my car needed an oil change, tires, etc. (There is a Mavis next door.) But when Mavis started playing their games trying to solicit service I didn't need I stopped. Now I go there as a treat on the morning of my birthday. I can't wait for it to come each year!! It has a country type atmosphere and the food is awesome. Whatever I have gotten has been very good, and I like to try something different each time. Very affordable too.

Karens is a no-frills country road diner that has to be on your list of places to stop if your on your way through pawling by on route 22. Eating here is like stopping by the best cook in your family's house to eat Everything is fresh and delicious and the prices are ridiculously low. The atmosphere is just plain fun - again, you feel like your hanging out in your families kitchen - if your familiy happens to be funny, loud and no nonsense that is.
