“Good but some improvements needed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2012 via mobile

We travelled as a couple (29 and 34) and stayed for 2 weeks from the end of June.

The hotel is lovely with really nicely decorated apartments which really are terrific. The flat screen TVs are a real bonus and there are a few channels that are in English including a couple that play films and one that seemed to play back to back CSI!

Our apartment had 1 double and 1 twin room. A bathroom with a bath with shower over and another bathroom with a shower. The showers are not properly temperature controlled so be careful with small children as they could get scalded.

The kitchen has a kettle and supply of tea bags and coffee. They also provide water when you arrive. After that you can bring your own back from the bars. Milk is difficult to get hold of - but if you ask at the bars they will oblige. Milk sticks or little pots in the room would make a big difference. In case it matters to you the tea is Lipton yellow label ... Awful stuff I think but luckily I had packed my own.

The rooms are cleaned to a high standard and the staff are really nice. The grounds are well kept and there are beautiful flowers.

The location is ok. The beach is nice but you cannot really bathe in the sea. It is pretty dangerous (mostly a red flag) and lots of rocks so getting in would be inconvenient at best. The pools were very good.

The animation team were good with nice personalities, but did not follow the schedule! They also all seemed to disappear in our second week. Activities: water aerobics, water polo, beach volleyball, football. All well done. If you asked you could get the beach boules to play with. Also volleyballs etc.

That said, there wasnt much to do and we found that 2 weeks dragged a lot! We went on a couple of excursions both booked at the beach hut. The snorkelling trip was the highlight. They pick you up from the hut, take you to santa Maria where you go on a rib boat to a wreck. We saw lots of great fish and swam with an adult green turtle. Cost 20 euros per person. Beach buggies were fun but be warned they do take you on the road which was frankly quite unsafe and they had told us it was all off road. Santa Maria was a bit harrowing. It is a low income country and the non cape verdians that have come over to try and make money seemed desperate for a sale ... To the point of following you everywhere.

Food was ok as far as all inclusive holidays go. But after 2 weeks it had become very repetitive. If you have food allergies or intolerances I would suggest avoiding this hotel. I was served cheese 3 times even though I had explained that I was allergic. The staff are trying and one of the managers did put a lot of effort into trying to make sure I was catered for, however even with her help I was still served cheese. If you are already booked to go - email ahead to make them aware of any dietary requirements. If you ask for something plain in spices then they will try their best. The waterside was our favourite - try the maki roll - it was yummy.

The beach bar has some good evening entertainment, apart from the 20 strong drum troop which was ear bleedingly loud. It was great though to see local dancers and musicians rather than reps doing cheesy holiday entertainment.

Some more variety in music when the disco starts at the beach bar would be good!

The late bar was a flop. It looked beautiful but no one really went there. The music was dreadful and service not really friendly.

Mosquitos were out in force when we were there. Take repellant!!

It would be really good if the hotel provided just a few more distractions ... Perhaps a pool table or two, a table tennis table and even a little crazy golf would be good.

Hope the review helps!

Hotel is excellent, staff is perfect always smiling and helpful. Food and drinks were great although I did not understand why you had to book to eat at 3 of the restaurants when they were clearly not full.
We booked this place because we wanted to learn kite surfing. Their water sports facility was great and Borja, our instructor, was superb!
It's true about the pebbles so ladies don't bother about hills - they will get damaged.
Room was huge and with a very big living room. We were close to reception so we just about had some wi-fi.
Overall we had a great time!!!
Anyone fancing water sports, go to kite beach! It's amazing them; even if it is just for a dip in the water... the beach is truly stunning!

Room Tip: From what I heard all room was big! :-)

Everything on this resort was really fantastic! I will come back for sure. It is really the best level of work and services. Well done guys!

(The only shame is the acces to the sea nearby hotel beach. If you like sea water, you have to walk 5 minutes to find nice place with easy acces to the water. )

From the moment we arrived we were looked after at the hotel, we were given a cocktail at check in and proceeded to our room.

We had booked a 2 bedroom suite, we couldnt believe how big it was.. There were the 2 bedrooms (one of which had a tv as well as the one in the lounge), 2 bathrooms, kitchen/dining area. You could decide when you wanted clean towels/bedding which was a good idea.

I was a bit concerned before going as we have 2 young children that they wouldnt like any of the food but this was never the case. The a la carte restaurants always made fresh pasta for the children so we didnt have to miss out dining there.
Aqua changed their menu twice a week i think but were closed 2 nights a week. You pick your food when you sit down, we had the steak which was fantastic.
Waterside(fish restaurant) had to be prebooked and menu decided when you booked your time. Again this closed for 2 nights a week.
O Grille again needed to be prebooked and was open every night. The food had to be picked when you made the reservation with 3 menus to chose from. The only think that was slightly disappointing was the menu never changed in the 2 weeks we were there and you couldnt pick food from the different menus.
Spices was buffet style which had hot/cold foods from around the world. With different meats/fishes/pastas
In any of the restuarants we never had a problem getting a highchair for our little girl.

A few days we went to the childrens pool by the kids club. Our son would pop in and out and come out with his face painted or a balloon model. Not sure what hours they were open but they had a good selection of toys for all ages.

The children loved the ice cream which you could help yourself to for a few hours a day. They also offered fruit slushes which were brilliant to instantly cool you down.

The majority of the staff were pleasant - one of them in particular was Elizabeth. She always had a smile on her face and obviously loved her job.

Enjoyed most of our time down on the beach with the restaurant and bar close to hand. The only thing was that the sea was very rocky but there were a couple of places you could get in and swim.

We would definately recommend this hotel to families as the staff are very family orientated. We are booking to go back next year

stayed with my two older daughters at end of June the hotel is lovely and spotlessly clean the food is hot and well presented, don't think the hotel is particularly good for children they do have a small pool and kids club but it seemed to cater for older couples wanting a quite "get away from it all holiday" which suited our requirements perfectly. If your looking to get out of the hotel there are several tours you can go on try BLINKY'S tours you will find her on facebook and the prices reasonable. The staff in general were polite and friendly however there did seem to be some sort of hierarchy between them. We only really encountered one slight problem during our stay in which the apartment block right next door was been maintained and we weren't informed before hand what a rude awakening that was at 6am when they started drilling!! All in all though a very pleasent week.
