While an interesting DIY palace, neither the history nor the architecture warrant a trip without other plans in the area.

Driving up you really don't know what to expect, but I think the tour is definitely worthwhile.
There is "Stuff" everywhere. The entire castle is made from recycled material, which most people would throw out. Peter Wing has turned it into a strange masterpiece. We had the great pleasure of having Mr. Wing take us on the tour. He is a historian, artist , collector and interesting man. The whole place was a creative wonder. For a small fee, it was certainly a treat.

We are so glad that a friendly Millbrook NY resident recommended a visit to Wing's Castle. Mr Pete Wing and his wife and family have been building this amazing structure since the early 70s, using at least 85% recycled, salvaged and found materials. The outside is truly a sculpture, with the Wings creating their home as a piece of art down to the tiniest detail. The views are breathtaking. Miss Daisy May, the tiny "attack dog" greeted us as we were taken inside for a fantasic tour; we promptly fell in love with her and with the house. There is not a bare spot anywhere- every space, floor to ceiling, is filled with wondrous pieces of art, history, ephemera or just bits of joy. The Wings do live here and graciously open the first floor of their unique home to visitors. There is a bed-and-breakfast area; we hope to stay there in the future. Pete Wing is a fascinating man and a supremely creative soul, and we had a terrific tour and conversation. The visit was the highlight of our Hudson Valley vacation.

We arrived at Wing's Castle and the views of the Catskills were spectaculor! The castle and the detail was amazing. I think Peter and Toni are outstanding artists and their lifework is absolutely terrific. But with all this aside we were greated by a woman who took our fee $10 per person and given a 10 minute speech of the history of the artists. We were then told about the underground tunnel system which we were not allowed to see because of the construction. We were then brought inside for the tour, which felt very rushed. We saw a total of 3 rooms inside the house, one being the living room which was full of antiques, then the kitchen, and then the bathroom. Again the architecture was amazing. We were told about the upstairs and basement but again were not allowed to view any of these things. We were then led back outside and finished viewing the pool area. For the 30 minute tour, which only 15 minutes was spent inside, I feel that the $10 price was very steep. I can see the cost at $5 per person but at $10, I pretty much was able to see the same photos and more of the interior on-line. I wouldn't recommend this attraction at the price of $10.

When you arrive at Wing Castle you will be greeted by a tour guide who will happily take your $10.00 per person admission fee. You will then begin your 10 to 15 minute tour of a small house built out of rocks, situated on a beautiful piece of property. Before you enter the home you will listen to a short history about the property followed by a description of the amazing tunnel system which exsists beneath the house. HOWEVER, your tour will not include the tunnels because they are still under construction. Upon entering the house you will be led into the living room which is cluttered and covered with antiques and many things. The guide will give you a short description of the staircase that exsists behind the fireplace and climbs several stories to the bedrooms and a balcony. HOWEVER, you won't see the balcony, bedrooms or the staircase as this area is private. Next you'll enter the kitchen area which again, is cluttered and full of stuff. On your way to the front of the house you will be able to see the bathroom, which has an interesting copper bath tub. Upon leaving the home you will be shown the moat/pool which extends around part of the house. Apparently the garden is quite beautiful. HOWEVER, it was also in need of much care and repair. In the end, you will tour 2 rooms and a bathroom. There is very little history here. Don't waste your money, or your time getting there.
