“Relaxing place, lovely gardens and friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2012

This hotel is a few years old and could do with some modernisation but offered us a very comfortable stay and great value. Nice room overlooking the sea, clean and spacious.

Beautiful gardens with nice sun lounger space, private beach on separate level to general walkers which is great, hammocks and other shaded areas. Nice pool bar with great live music most nights early evening and happy hour. Peacocks and monkeys roaming around as well as other colourful birds and beautiful flowers.

Friendly staff in bars and restaurants etc. Pleasant gardeners and other people working on site. Not many kids, no signs of chavs or n*bs. Quiet and relaxing.

Bathroom a bit old and shower leaky but clean.

Restuarants here are a bit over priced and drinks expensive outside of happy hour. But bar staff are really helpful and nice generally. Worth 5 min walk to strip for food/drinks nearby.

Good security. Security guards and staff everywhere.

Really would recommend this place as it won't break the bank like Coco Ocean and some of the other places nearby and is a good standard. The staff are really great and make it worth a visit.

Room Tip: Go for the furthest away blocks for peace and quiet and get a 1st floor room/balcony for best sea vi...

wonderful grounds, good choice of breakfast
we had a deluxe room but upon arrival my opinion was it was more standard room views of ground on ground floor
we were told we had a double bed it was twin beds pushed together small room and no seperate shower def only a 3 star room
only 1 restaurant open. we ate on strip as cheaper
hotel guards kept offering to be our guide around gambia im sure they wanted a tip
no real hotel shop as such what they had didnt sell much everywhere only seemed to sell wood carvings
afternnon tea was nice hotel ahlf empty so no rush at breakfast
staff very pushy as pool/beach area we had the staff from the spa come up to us and feel our feet saying we need a pedicure were very persisitent! and staff did nothing to stop the beggars on the beach waving items at us to buy they would not take no for an answer beggars very persistent!
the beach is suffering badly from erosion.
staff kept approaching us to see if we wanted a drink/food it was overpriced and i said no but they keep on asking
you go to the pool/beach to relax, not to be constantly asked if you wanted to buy something
great weather but sad you cannot walk along the beach without being followed.

Room Tip: book a suite not seluxe rooms as small make sure you ask for a double room in garden area

This hotel has been around for a while and you can tell, nevertheless there are lots of repeat guests who seem to like it. I would not rate this as a five star hotel; the area around the pool is tired and needs a face lift and the beach area which is serviced by hotel staff is dirty and should be cleaned regularly. We stayed in the highest category room and were not impressed, my understanding was that it was a top category room because of its size, corner balcony and probably the trouser press (do you really need one of these on a beach holiday?) the room did not have much of a view and no privacy on the balcony as it faced onto a service road used by staff non stop. Good points are location and the great restaurants nearby, the lovely gardens and the staff in the restaurants and those responsible for cleaning the rooms excepting staff on reception who were arrogant and unhelpful.

Room Tip: Dont bother with the top category rooms, they are not worth it unless you get one of the two or thre...

Just come back from our 5th visit to The Kairaba and not disappointed. Although the hotel has been open for some time and is not so trendy the beautiful gardens full of flowers and wildlife more than compensate. The rooms in the gardens are spacious, clean and well equipped, if a little tired and the pool area is holiday heaven- cushioned sunbeds placed where you chose and towelled up daily by the excellent Moyes and Whally, peaceful atmostphere under the palm trees and julbrew on tap served to you by the lovely bar staff. Will be back.

P.S. Breakfast's are great but agree with others go out for other meals on the strip- some fab restaurants, entertaining nightlife and good value.

Room Tip: Wouldn't recommend the standard rooms as they are on the driveway in not in the gardens
