I have to admit, I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn since I was a kid. If this hotel is any indication of how Holiday Inn properties are these days, you can count me in as a guest! Clean, modern with a friendly and helpful staff.

Room tip: Many rooms have balconies that overlook the pool and in the distance, Lake George

beautiful inside and out. Very friendly. Our room was large which was nice. Bed and pillows were so comfortable. Microwave and refrig in room. Keurig with complimentary coffee. Shower was a delight. Plenty of towels including pool towels should you need them. I fully recommend this place. Also location is great.

Room tip: 106 was great

This Holiday Inn was built in the 1960's. It has three stories with elevators. The lobby and front of the hotel are quite nice but some of the rooms and hallways do show some wear. We had reserved a King room - the mattress was very soft and therefore, uncomfortable for us. The bathroom is very small and does look as if it needs some updating. There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom and after a shower, does get steamed up quite heavily. I would consider this to be an average Holiday Inn, even though it is called a "Resort". They do not offer a complimentary continental breakfast, as many other Holiday Inns do. There is a restaurant on site, "T.R.'s", supposedly named after Theodore Roosevelt. We had the breakfast buffet the day that we arrived and found it to be average at best. You must be cautious at what time of the year that you travel to Lake George. We found out that after Labor Day, almost everything is closed during the week, but some of the stores/restaurants might open during the week-ends. There are a number of good restaurants in the area; George's has a very nice early bird for $19.00 and offers a salad bar with many items, including two soups, etc. But after Labor Day, they are only open from Friday to Sunday. The Log Jam restaurant in Queensbury is only about 3 miles away, is located in the Outlets and has good food, but the dinner prices are a little on the high side. These restaurants are in the style of the Adirondacks, being built in a log cabin style and are very charming. Summers in Lake George are very crowded, obviously.

Room tip: This hotel has three floors - the 3rd floor is suites only.

Two night stay at this property was our second. There will be a third.

Initially, this property doesn't look like all that much from the road but that is deceptive. From the warm fireplaced lobby, through the lounge and restaurant, through the rooms, this place is gorgeous.

Front desk staff was efficient and friendly. Check in was a breeze.

The warm wood cocktail lounge is a pleasure with very reasonable drink prices and excellent food for lunch or dinner. The main bartender/waitress (Agnes) is terrific and runs both bar and wait service flawlessly and with good humor. The 4:00 to 7:00 PM happy hour has a rotating menu and is a nice amenity.

TRs Restaurant is the full service side of the property and it is also excellent. Food is good, prices are reasonable and wait staff is very friendly and efficient. There is also a dinner theater option which we didn't utilize.

The rooms are comfortable, decently sized and kept nicely clean by housekeeping. The TV works and the WiFi always worked on several devices (which is not the case where we've stayed).

Room amenities include a refrigerator, microwave, room safe and single cup Keurig all of which are greatly appreciated. The property generally has both outdoor and indoor pools and various outdoor games. One serious highlight is the outdoor firepit which we enjoyed each evening, even in 40 degree weather.

My little nits? I'd like to see the 24 hour coffee available at other IHG properties. I'd also prefer someplace to get just a bagel or English Muffin in the mornings rather than a full breakfast in the restaurant. Also, this property is horizontal rather than vertical which means the walk to the lobby can be loooong. Absolutely none of these things affects my enjoyment of this property.

Overall, I highly recommend this property for a family trip to a gorgeous part of NY.

Room tip: Rooms numbered below x15 (ie: 215) will cut out the long walks to the lobby/lounge/restaurant.

Recently stayed at this hotel - beautiful grounds, interior etc. Registered under my cousin's last name - Amodeo. Got to the hallway with our room and everything changed. There was a horrific odor in the hallway - the closer we got to our room the worse it became; literally sickening. Inside our room it was just as bad. It was clearly coming under the door from the adjacent room. We called the front desk mgr. She was very slow to respond. Another guest called from across the hall. Maintenance arrived - he went outside to look in the room next to us - came back and said there was fish all over the table. Mgr finally showed up; she knocked on the door of room next to us - told them they couldn't cook in the room - they said they weren't. She said "I can see you have a rice cooker, what are you cooking" Answer: SQUID. She told maintence to "towel" our adjoining door and give us a bottle of febreze. She did not demand they stop, request they remove the fish and electrical appliances from the room, ask them to leave OR offer us another room. Nothing. We went to have dinner - at 10pm, my cousin went back to the room and next door they were cooking again, and burned bread or toast. Mrs. Amodeo went to the front desk again. She explained what was happening now and asked that a note be put in our file so we're not charged the $200 cleaning fee she'd had to sign for if we smoked on our balcony. What a joke - $200 if you have a cigarette on your balcony but it's ok to cook squid in your room? You can't make this stuff up. Nothing else was done. The next morning we went to check out and I said unfortunately I would not be able to give this hotel a favorable review. The woman at the desk asked why and I explained. She was horrified. She looked on our record and in the maintenance log and neither women from the previous evening had written anything about the incident as they'd promised. The morning mgr offered us a free breakfast but we needed to leave. We asked for compensation and were told it wasn't possible because we prepaid. Please don't tell me you can't issue a credit to each of our credit cards - you can.
If we are compensated for the room I will happily offset this review. If not, we will go out of our way to ensure this review is seen and/or heard. My cousin has property just south of Lake George. Her family and friends frequent the area continually, and other relatives have stayed at this hotel. We will ensure no one does again.
