“One bad thing after another”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

The person checking us in was wonderful - very friendly and nice. That was the only good thing about the hotel other than a mini-fridge for personal use in the room. First, the key/lock apparatus to the room wouldn't work, so we had to stay in a different room. Second, the room smelled horrible (bug spray?). Third, the tub enamel was chipped and there was no place to hang a wash cloth or put one's shampoo/conditioner. Fourth, the knob for the shower fell off. Fifth, the amenities consisted only of soap and shampoo (we had to search for the scratchy tissues, but we found them) - no conditioner. The shampoo left a film on one's hair. Sixth, there was no hair dryer. Seventh, no closet or place to hang clothing. Eighth, one of the beds had specks that were reminiscent of bed bugs. Ninth, the continental breakfast was disgusting - a loaf of white bread, two small muffin/sweet pastry packages (think the cheapest item in a convenience story, unrefrigerated orange juice, two plastic containers of cereal, one of the brightly colored sugary variety, and a quarter full pot of coffee. Even the coffee was so unappetizing that we bought it down the road.
Even a "not the Ritz" hotel should be better than this.

When I pulled up it didn't make a good impression. Needed some serious renovations. I didn't have a reservation, but I had looked online two nights earlier and knew the price, as well as the AAA price.
When I went to the desk and asked how much a room would be, the man there told me a price about $10 more than the online price and when I told him I saw it cheaper online, he said that was an "internet special" price and he would not give me the price quoted online. I then asked about using AAA and he said no, this was the cheapest price he'd give me. He wasn't very nice either.
So I left. Now he didn't get ANY money...his loss, not mine.
There are SOOO many more hotels and motels in Kingston. Try somewhere else.

I agree with all the prior reviews in some respects. Our room did have a moldy smell but it was otherwise clean. Location is nice, on a hilltop and, if you eat in the restaurant, it has a pretty view. Indeed, it is not the Ritz but a pleasant enough place.

We've stayed here for the past 4 years for the Rhinebeck Sheep & Wool Festival. We wanted a clean room (ours have been spotless) in a safe location (upstairs over the lobby), with a restaurant near by (Skytop Steak House).

Yes, this place is not the Ritz, but it met all of our requirements and then some for the price. They have made several upgrades to the property. We've already booked our room for next year. I think the unhappy reviewers had different expectations.

Room Tip: Book early if you're going for the Rhinebeck festival!

Booked online, two nights, two rooms. Pulled in, not a car to be seen! Checked in, opened rooms, wife and daughter wouldn't even enter the rooms! Mold all around the shower, cob webs through out, damp odor, pealing paint on ceiling. Left minutes later, sacrificed a nights fee, but worth it. Phone book in room had the "Hotel-Motels" section ripped out and the other Hotels we spoke with said they get a lot of guests from this place unwilling to stay there. A big stay away from hotel.

Room Tip: Didn't stay the night, not a good room anywhere.
