Saw this lighthouse pretty close up on the Hudson River Cruise.
Pretty cool.
I think the only way to go inside it is if you go on a special lighthouse cruise since it's not connected by land.

Before our travels we looked up information on this Rondout Lighthouse so it was pretty easy to find. The 2 parks were nice too. One had the view of the river of which we watched a large boat being pushed by a smaller one. They have bathrooms available there. Then when you park over by the Kingston Point Park there is a large wrought iron gate to walk thru. Nice trail and easy to walk. Have a few pavilions one can use. As you walk along the trail, which has railway rails to your right and the river to the left, you have a very nice view of the river and what is happening on it. Part way down the trail you will get a good view of the Lighthouse. Unable to go into it as it is surrounded by water. Trail was very easy to walk along.
We stopped to talk to a Father and son who were doing some morning fishing.
Another family was setting up to have a party there later in the day at one of the pavilions.
We are glad that we stopped and highly recommend doing so.

Following a brisk walk through the woods and marsh we reached the light house. Not open to the public while we were there, it does have 2 bedrooms available to overnight guests. Obviously right on the Hudson, it was cool and windy, but sighting a BALD EAGLE made it well worth while. Not for any climbing, (what we love to do) but a glimpse of the river's history

Not visible from the landing, but clearly seen from a park a mile or so up-river - or by taking a boat ride. On a small island in the middle of the Hudson River.

A nice way to spend an afternoon. It's a pleasnt boat ride to the light house or houses as they somtimes visit two or three light houses. Its more enjoyable on a nice day as the water is calm and you can sit outside on the boat.
