We stayed for three nights at Dona Ana and enjoyed it a lot. The whole complex is very well maintained and offers two beautiful pools and has a beach accsess. From there also the trips to the Archipelago start, so you can walk over and do not need transportation.
Breakfast was good, dinner is better outside.
Very chick, but also a bit cold. On the other hand beautiful art deco... watch for deals, we paid half on booking.com

Will be the catalyst for Vilanculos becoming a go-to destination in Southern Africa.... Great food (I'm a picky vegetarian and the chef was very happy to make customized, delicious meals for me), great views (in fact, my now husband proposed to me on our balcony at Dona Ana), and insanely beautiful excursions to Bazaruto Archipelago.

Be sure to do a one or two day trip to the archipelago.... best beach I've been to in my ENTIRE life... far better than even the Maldives!!! and take a wooden boat out.... they cook you a great picnic lunch on board!

Can't comment much on the food or accomodation as I just stopped in for water, but I feel like this is a "thing-to-do" in Vilanculos. Worth popping in and at least looking around - have a drink outside by the pool and try to picture to original decor.

I had booked into the Palmeiras Lodge - but on arrival found it a depressingly dark and overgrown spot, reeking of malaria mossie possibilities. So I went searching for a slightly more upmarket, cleaner, brighter spot. Done Ana worked as a somewhat more expensive alternative. It sits n the point with bedroom views to the sea and slightly less costly to the bay. The bay is a better view in any case I thought. The room was large, with a private balcony and decent bathroom. The staff were friendly and the room kept spotless. It is a slightly old place, with a forlorn sense of past grandeur about it (maybe in high season when the large restaurant has more than a few diners and the bar is full it would feel different). My main gripe was the wifi, which fell out half way through my stay (but that might have been the whole town). There are a bunch of expensive resort hotels in this town, and Dona Ana probably sits down the ladder a little - but for me it was an affordable and welcome alternative.

Dear Traveler

Thank you for your positive review. We are proud of a clean kept Hotel, and are glad you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately the whole town was down on internet over your stay making it difficult to supply wifi in the hotel. Luckily the town has internet again.
Safe travels.
