A friend and I went for the ravioli but the portions were so small that we thought the'd given us a starter instead of a main meal. Same went for friend's spiced chickpea and potato cakes (only one and not plural as shown on menu). We were told that this was a new menu and the bar meals were no longer available. The service was also very slow.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on your recent visit to The Retreat. We pride ourselves on serving good quality food and are very sorry we failed to meet your expectations on this occasion.

Naturally with a new menu launch we fully expect strong feedback in regards to our new dishes, prices and products provided by new suppliers and I can assure you that this information has been passed on to our head chef.

Between the hours of 12pm and 5pm we have both the Lunch Menu, A La Carte menu and Specials available which offers a wide variety of options. If this was not made clear by the member of our team who served you then we can only apologise and will ensure the team are fully briefed on our offers to give our guests the widest selection of choice available.

We hope that this experience hasn't deterred you from visiting us again and would be happy to invite you and your party back sample other dishes on our new menu on us.
Please email info@theretreatstaines.co.uk to discuss what we can do for you.

Guest feedback is extremely important to us and we value your opinion.

We look forward to hearing from you.

From the start things did not go well. I followed the directions for the disabled access. Well round to the front of the building there is a gate into a patio area. Sound good but there is a 4" step! When you have done that there are 2 doors to manoeuvre through as well. If you want to use the ideal entrance would be the door at the side entrance where the disabled parking is it has a slope and 2 doors much more manageable.
We ordered food, new menu that day, pizza and I wanted chips side order, chips with skin on, well side order is chunky chips but checked with kitchen as she thought they did not do that sort of chips, well they do but did not have any anyway! I advised her there was only one knife and no napkins she said she would get some. Well our food arrived and still they were not there. I spoke to Carlos, the other person serving, and he got for us and apologized.
The pepperoni pizza was red hot, I think it was the pepper spots far too hot!
When our food arrived my husband ordered another glass of wine, from the lady server, the same one I asked for knife and napkins, and it did not arrive.
Lastly the paying of the bill. I was told what the cost was and I had to ask to see the breakdown. When I looked we had been charged for 3 glasses of wine instead of 2. Carlos was called over and yet again he apologised. He said that the customer was always showed the bill breakdown, I suggested he told her that.
He helped us out the door, not the disabled exit, and said sorry again.
Have to say he was very helpful.
The bar area was nice and comfortable. It was a very nice sunny day, the first one for a while, but they had 3 fires burning and it was way to hot in there.

Had a birthday meal here for my mums 60th. What can I say it was wonderful! Staff were lovely in particular our waiter. So so helpful. Food was amazing, my steak was cooked to perfection. Lovely place, great ambience and wonderful staff. Would highly recommend to others.

After a really stressful morning we went to The Retreat for Sunday dinner. The service was warm and friendly and the food came promptly and arrived all together. It was lovely and hot and really delicious. It was the second time in a fee months we have eaten here and have nothing but the highest praise for the second
service, the food and the restaurant itself. Also as a massive plus you can bring your dog here.
