We celebrated our daughter Catherine Dell's year as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching nursing at the University of Swaziland with the walking safari to the Wild Dogs and Elephant and Hippo canoe safari.

Words simply cannot express how much I love this place!! My husband and I recently returned from our 3rd visit to Vundu, and after several safaris in 8 different African countries, it's the place we keep coming back to. From the moment we're picked up at the airstrip, we're treated like family. As a family owned and operated camp, you not only have the luxury and attention to detail, but you have a place that feels like home nestled between the bush of Mana Pools and the banks of the Zambezi River. The luxury tents at the main camp are beautiful with indoor and outdoor bathroom options (leaving you the choice of showering while looking at the stars (in evening), the pan (in afternoon) or the Zambezi). The tents have plenty of space, extremely comfortable new beds, and lounge space overlooking the river. There is a "tree house" overlooking the pan (watering hole) and exquisitely decorated and comfortable common spaces in the lodge with breathtaking views from every angle. The food is always delicious and plentiful and the service 5 stars! However, what really sets Vundu apart is the experiences that you leave with. It's not just a place where you drive to see the animals from atop a cushioned land rover seat, it's a place where you can also follow a pride of lions on foot as they hunt, crouch in the bush waiting to see the wild dog pups come out of the den for the first time, and stand behind a tree as one of the large male elephants stands on his back 2 legs to pull down a branch to munch on. Even more phenomenal than the walking experiences are the canoeing trips. As you're canoeing down the Zambezi (or sitting in front as a member of the staff paddles for you), you never know what new experience is just around the river bend! We followed elephant families as they crossed the river between islands, saw plenty of crocks slide down the bank into the water, countless bird varieties, and loads of hippos plop into the water as they "talked" with us. There were many awe-inspiring moments, several heart racing, and other times of quiet serenity while fishing or floating downstream. This trip we traveled as a group of 6 friends spending 2 nights at main camp and 3 nights at temporary camp along the Zambezi. (Dry bags are provided, but we usually keep our cameras out.) The remote camp is nice with mattress covered cots, range tents, hot bucket showers and flush toilets. The food while camping along the river is extraordinary, with multi course meals served by candle-light and nights sharing stories (and wine) around the fire. Each of our trips, we've had Nick as our guide. Nick is a wealth of information and stories - he and his wife own and manage the camp. He's a phenomenal guide who knows the animals on a one-on-one basis, is able to track the wild-dogs like none other, and has a true love for the bush and wildlife. (I also recommend looking at his work with the Bushlife Conservatory and Bushlife Support Unit, which are making great strides to combat and prevent poaching at Mana Pools.)
In short, I would HIGHLY recommend visiting Vundu Camp in Mana Pools and traveling down the Zambezi with Nick Murray. It will be the experience of a lifetime - and go back as often as you can! It's just as magical, but a different experience every time!!

Thank you for this extremely kind review of your third stay with us! We are so happy that you had such a great time. We love to hear about the fantastic animal sightings that our guests get to experience!! So exciting seeing the lions, the wild dogs puppies and of course our gentle giants, the elephant bulls of Mana Pools. We are happy that you got to experience the safari in the 3 possible ways we offer; driving, walking and canoeing!
We will be sure to pass on these amazing compliments to Nick and Desiree and their Bushlife Safaris Team.
We hope to see you again soon for visit number 4

This was our first visit, and we definitely would go back in a heartbeat! Fabulous setting beside the river, great food and hospitality, and amazing games drives and walks. Nick and his team have put together a very comfortable camp that can be a great base of operations for exploring and learning about the wildlife in Zimbabwe.

We spent four nights with Bush Life Safaris, two at Vundu Camp and two in a mobile camp while canoeing the mighty Zambezi River. The customer service is outstanding, the tents are well kept and just right for the adventurer in anyone. We felt perfectly at home our entire stay, learning more about Mana Pools than we ever even imagined. The guides are truly exceptional and constantly working to improve on their knowledge and skills. I would recommend this camp to anyone seeking a relaxing and exciting adventure.

Room tip: Afternoon naps on the couch are blissful.

We did the 3 day mobile canoe safari with Vundu Camp and Bushlife Safaris. We started with two evenings at the main lodge. The accommodations, food, and staff were phenomenal. The camp and lodge are beautiful with wildlife all around. Elephants browsed on the trees both evenings. The mobile camps were, as well, everything we could have hoped for. The camps and food were wonderful, the guides are clearly experts and ensured our safety throughout. Exceeded all expectations. Go to Vundu, you'll not regret it.
