Got a reservation at Hudson Garden Grill through OpenTable for lunch after our visit to the botanical gardens. We are happy we had reservations, because the place was packed. An interesting menu with lots of great choices, and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

I had a starter salad as well as tomato soup and grilled cheese, my husband had the hamburger with a specialty cheesecake for dessert. Amazing use of natural flowers and spices like lavender, as well as grass fed beef and In- season fruits.

The waiter, Carlos was excellent, very helpful to go over the menu options and attentive to our needs. It was the perfect pre-orchid festival lunch! Even gluten free options!

We recently had lunch at the Hudson Garden Grill as part of our visit to see the Orchid Show. We've been visiting the NYBG for nearly two decades, so I remember when this space was just a bland fast food (chicken fingers and fries) place a la the eating places found at the Central Park or Bronx Zoo. So I am happy to see that they have created a lovely restaurant with bright, white, vertical shiplap walls, large sun-filled windows, and simple blue and white checkered table cloths conjuring up images of a picnic under a tree (well-suited for the Gardens).

We were with 2 nine year old girls....and although there is a formality to the place, they definitely accommodate children (they have high chairs, too), and they offer a children's menu.

The menu is based on the popular farm to table theory of cooking....there a nice selection of appetizers, salads and main dishes, as well as a nice cocktail and wine list. I enjoyed a bucatini pasta dish with lobster and my wife had a seasonal posole. We also enjoyed a really nice cheese plate for everyone to share and their very delicious and addicting "monkey bread" which is not the sweet, cinnamony, gooey breakfast dish you might be thinking of....this is a warm but salty and savory bread served with butter. It's VERY good.

I have to say that the dining room was crowded and our server had several large tables, but the service was excellent as well as the server's knowledge of the dishes and their ingredients.

All in all, it was a very nice lunch experience....and we would return for another meal. My only negative comment would be that it seems a touch over-priced. You will be paying what you would at a mid-range restaurant in the middle of Manhattan...our meal for 4 was just under $200. That being said, food and beverages at Gardens, Zoos and Museums is typically a tad overpriced, so maybe it should be expected.

This is a great way to end visit at NYBG. Sitting at bar gives you great view to kitchen. It was like watching an orchestra. I ordered whiskey sour, crab cake and goat cheese gnocchi. Loved the food and attentive service.

We were waiting for dusk to see the Chihuly at night exhibit and stopped at the Hudson Bay Grill. Our meal here was perfect, and the setting is awesome. We were seated on the patio and enjoyed the ambience of the surrounding park.

All staff we dealt with were excellent and so was our food. We each started with a glass of wine and shared a Hudson Garden Nosh platter, at $19. The components were eclectic and it was all delicious. It included a bowl of olives, deviled eggs, duck prosciutto, head cheese, chicken liver mousse, white bean lardo bruschetta, and some perfectly grilled bread.

After, we each ordered a Little Gem salad, which was $10 each. It was a large salad with beautiful butterhead lettuce, cucumber, avocado, and orange with a sweet and sour olive oil. It was crisp and refreshing.

I grow Little Gem lettuce which is a small Romaine; I found it funny that a prominent garden restaurant would use a different ingredient in a dish than what it’s named for! Regardless, it was all excellent.
