My girlfriend and I had an absolutely lovely time at Stefan and Sean's place, and I would recommend it enthusiastically to anyone looking for an escape from the city. The house is beautiful, spacious, open, airy, impeccably clean, beautifully maintained, and fully equipped with everything from pots and pans to firewood to books and DVDs. It’s also an easy walk from a beautiful covered bridge, a lake that must be great for swimming in the summer, and the village of Pine Hill, which has a bunch of shops and restaurants. The town of Phoenicia, which is a little further away in the other direction, has a lot of character, and we had an amazing meal at the Phoenicia Diner there. We also found a great farm stand down the road and so were able to make quite a nice meal at home one night.
We were there in March, and the weather wasn't ideal, but we really enjoyed snoozing by the fire and watching the snow fall all around us. In fact, what with the restaurant-quality kitchen, the warm, cozy fireplace, and the amazing sunroom from which we could sit and watch the creek flow by, we were glad for the excuse to stay in and do nothing.
Stefan and Sean were incredibly warm and conscientious hosts, leaving us detailed instructions about the house and the area, and texting us at one point to make sure all was well. They really went out of their way to ensure that we had a nice time, and I felt very comfortable dealing with them.
Altogether, it’s a great house in a great area, and Sean and Stefan are great hosts. We’ve taken a lot of weekend trips out of the city, and staid in a lot of different rental properties, but this one was the nicest by far.
