We recently stayed at Vumbura Plains,South Camp and straight away were impressed with our guide,Mocks who picked us up at the airstrip and said,"Let us discuss our Plan".So we fixed the plan for the game safari's, mokoro ride, motor boat, night safari and bush picnic.Mocks rang the Camp and arranged everything as per the plan and we went off for our afternoon safari straight from the airstrip! This was a great way to begin even before we had arrived at the Camp!
We interacted a lot with our guide,Mocks and found him excellent. He handled all our safari's with aplomb and skill. But for his skills we would not have been able to see the rare and unfortunate sighting of a fully grown male lion with a superb black mane,"Big Boy",being mauled to death by 3 young lion intruders. "Big Boy" was defending his territory.Only two vehicles were able to see the actual fight.Unfortunately,"Big Boy" was not able to single handedly stand up to the 3 young male lions. His death cast a gloom at the Camp where" Big Boy" was loved.
The staying area at the Camp was spacious and very nice with a plunge pool and sitting outside. The Reception, newly re-built and the restaurant area were cosy.

The Camp was in a private Community Concession called Kwedi and therefore off road, night safari's and bush picnics were allowed. Many of the employees at the Camp were from the villages which formed a part of this community. We interacted and had useful discussions with the General Manager,Kci and Wadi, the Guest Relations Manager. We had a private dinner with Mocks & Wadi to learn more about the Concession and to discuss how the Camp could honour the memory of "Big Boy".
The Camp also provided 2 Olympus Camera's free of charge for use by guests at South Camp on a returnable basis. This was a fine gesture by Wilderness Safari's to encourage wildlife photography.
