Loved our time on 60000 hectares of private concession with luxury accommodation and service. We were up close and personal with the wildlife, including hippo and elephant right by the villa. The staff were attentive and friendly and food and service excellent. The culinary highspot is the brunch served after the morning game drive from 6am to 11 ish.My wife has a shoulder disability not yet fixed by surgery and the guides and staff were very accommodating and caring about the reduced mobility.
Our first African safari experience, taken alongside our good friends who are safari veterans and live in Botswana, and the camp handled very different expectations and interests.
We especially appreciated the smiling girls who met every drive and helped us dismount with all our gear, provide cool hand towels and a cocktail on the evening return.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are a fair walk from the lodge area. Its on a raised boardwalk and pleasant, but hot during the day.

Dear Peter,

Thank you for beautiful review, we are honoured to have been a part of your first safari experience and overjoyed to see our camp and staff were able to leave you with such amazing memories.

We are glad everyone was able to help make things easier for your wife, we are more than willing to help and accommodate all our guests’ needs, as long as we have a little notice prior to your arrival by means of your Travel Agent.

Our staff love greeting the guests when they return from the game drives, this is where you see the biggest smiles and get the most amazing recounts of the adventures they have just been on.

Thank you again.

This was an amazing camp. We had been traveling for 2 months and had some great accommodation, but Vumbura Plains was definitely the highlight of our entire trip. The staff were well-trained and engaged. From the first moment, they all greeted us by name and remembered our preferences - for coffee, drinks, and everything else. From the General Manager Alex, to Poppy who greeted us, to Ruby who served our meals, and everyone else, the staff were friendly and tried to anticipate and accommodate our every need. The food was spectacular and beautifully presented. We loved our room - we posted a picture on Facebook and everyone who saw it loved it. We have posted that picture with this review. It had everything that we could possibly need. The guides were excellent, from BK who picked us up at the airstrip and led us on our Mokoro adventure, to Lasi, the superb guide that we had for all of our safaris. The safari drives were obviously the focus and highlight of the experience, and they did not disappoint. Lasi really worked at making sure that we had as great an experience as possible. We got the most amazing sunset pictures because he went out of his way to get us to a spot which made it possible. See the picture that we have included. We felt pampered the entire time and enjoyed our stay to the utmost. I just read a couple of earlier reviews and wonder if the people were at the same camp! For us it was an incredible experience that we would happily repeat.

Wonderful safari experience at private lodges overlooking the river. Great staff. And great food. We felt very pampered and enjoyed our stay. Lodges have plunge pool for hot days. They are large with open views and screen in for blow thru breezes.
The staff has different experiences planned for you every day beyond the safaris. It was a pleasure, fun and entertaining. The food was great.

My wife and I stayed recently at Vembura Plains and it was supposed to be the highlight of our trip. The staff was very un engaging and did not go out of their way, the food was so so and the room needs updating. The only positive is the game viewing was excellent.

This place is soooo incredibly over priced! For this kind of money there are many other places to stay that you actually get what you pay for.

It seems Wilderness Safari does a great job in marketing to tour companies and travel agents, but this property in my opinion is very mis represented.. Maybe a few years ago it was different but they seem to have lost their focus.

We did reach out to Wilderness Safari upon return and they hid behind the tour company we booked through. In the end they were quite un interested and dismissed our observation and comments.

We had a very nice stay at VP south but we had much higher expectations for what we were paying. After we spent a week at 2 other safaris in the Okavango delta we were a little disappointed in VP.
The game is excellent- a wonderful variety of hippo, leopard, hyena, elephant, giraffe, wild dog, lions and sable.. We saw an amazing hyena kill. Ban our guide was very knowledgable but also seemed overworked.
The managers are young but very nice.. And the head guy- forgotten his name seemed to go through the motions but didn't seem truly invested. There was definitely a sense of burn out and perhaps it had something to with going in early October.. The last stretch of 3 months of work. When you are paying 5000/ night per couple , I would expect more..
The lobby area had weathered lounge seating and covered with twigs from the tree above. I understand that it is hard to keep up but would expect it to be cleaned more frequently like prior to arrival of guests etc. The rooms at one point were likely amazing but hard to keep up.. The pool was always dirty and though they likely patched the walls with paint, it looked terrible. The lounge chair cushions were weathered. The hard wood floors had a lot of gaps etc likely from the temp change .
I did walk the mile over to VP north and it was much nicer... Though I was told it was recently rebuilt.
We will definitely check out other wilderness safari locations..

Dear Sally W,

Thank you for your valuable feedback, we are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, despite the few setbacks you did encounter. We will be sure to pass along your notes about the weathering of the décor to our operations department for further investigation.

An eco-retreat offering the best of the Okavango’s wildlife and activities with a contemporary and unique design, Vumbura Plains comprises two separate satellite camps, consisting of 14 rooms overall (of which two accommodate families). Each camp has its own sumptuous raised lounge, dining and bar area with magnificent vistas across the Okavango Delta, while a deck with comfortable cushions protrudes into the floodplain, either for star-gazing or as a convivial camp fire setting.

Thank you again,
The Vumbura Plains Team
