Campsite was large, shaded, power, own tap, sink and drying rack which we loved, own braai. Communal ablutions but clean and good. Muchenje has a pool and a small shop with wifi. Our campsite overlooked a field with cattle wearing noisy clanking bells. We heard hyaena at night (yay!) but also a guy with a loudspeaker spouting political messages constantly, even late at night. The monkeys are also a problem there and will rob you in an instant. The owner walked around to check on each guests stay which was appreciated. She also gave some helpful advice. The facilities are good but next time if we came from Chobe Reserve, heading to Namibia, we would rather skip it and drive straight through to Zambezi Mubala.
Side note: Don't plan to fuel up in Muchenje

Our two nights at Muchenje provided ample time for us to gain an understanding of the vast number of animals which live in the National Park. The location overlooking the flood plain is stunning and the main building comfortable and well suited to the convivial meals around the communal table. The safari activities on offer match the location. Our high point was a morning starting just after dawn with a walk through the bush followed by three hours on the river surrounded by birds and animals. The day ended as we found ourselves in the middle of a huge herd of buffalo making their way to the water at dusk, most unaware of the leopard sauntering past.

Hallo Jan875.
Thank you very much for your feedback on Muchenje Safari Lodge.
We are very happy to read, that you enjoyed your stay, both in-house and on activities.
The Leopard/Buffalo sighting is just so special, We Hope you got some good shots of that encounter.
Chobe is one of the very special wildlife areas in Botswana and is well-known for the huge numbers of animals, that are concentrated around the Chobe river. Due to the drought this year, its even more noticeable.
We hope to welcome you back one day for another visit.
In the meantime, Salang Sentle...(Stay well )

We were delighted with Muchenje and pleasantly surprised - particularly as our agent who arranged our itinerary had said that it was a very good place to stay but perhaps not as good as our previous lodge in the Okavango (actually, we thought it was better). The location, on a scarp overlooking the Chobe Rover savannah is unsurpassable. Our 'hut' was spaces, thoughtfully furnished and the bathroom spacious. The view from the room and the verandah is breathtaking. The meals, normally taken on a long table with the other guests, were convivial, the food was good and plentiful and the atmospehere lovely. The staff were excellent: friendly, courteous, very helpful - impossible to fault. The lodge is also easily accessible from Kasane, along an asphalt road through the national park and then only a very short offered stretch to the lodge itself. The activities were excellent: an early morning safari walk with an armed guide, safari drives in the park and a morning on the Chobe waterfront in a boat - we picnicked while the elephants swum past us! The guides deserve a special mention - they were the best ones we came across on our two week trip. One should bear in mind that this is a national park, not a concession, so safari vehicles have to stay on the tracks - they cannot drive off track in search of wildlife. Having experienced both, we are very much in favour of staying on track - and to be honest, there is so much wildlife in Chobe that this is not a serious limitation; and, moreover, is more respectful of the wildlife. We would recommend Muchenje without reservation.

PS: only one small glitch. My wife does not eat meat and although the wonderful staff catered for this well for dinner they sometimes forgot about it when it came to picnics. There was enough salad around for this not to be a problem.

Room tip: Perhaps rooms never the main lodge are more convenient.

Muchenje offers gorgeous, perfect rooms with amazing decks overlooking the river and flood plains. I cold sit there all day. It's the perfect combination of lovely, comfortable rooms in a natural setting. The main lodge is stunning - open, inviting, tropical. The food is delicious, with one long table to share with the guides for your meals. Muchenje is close to the entrance of Chobe and the guides grew up in the nearby villages. They really know and love their work. Make sure to enjoy a morning bush walk, and definitely do the all-day boat and game drive option. You'll delight in the elephants enjoying the river. Bring your reusable water bottle. They owners are committed to no plastic, and offer safe drinking water from a large dispenser.

Hallo ana g.
Thank you for this great and positive review of Muchenje Safari lodge.
Its a small piece of paradise, which we call " home " and which we love to show to International visitors from all over the world. The Communal dining-tables are designed with the purpose of introducing like-minded travellers to each other and we have seen many friendships develop, during meals and game-activities. All part, for that short time, of the same family.
We are glad you mention the 'no-plastic' policy. In our small way, we are trying to minimize plastic wastage in this area. Paper-straws at the bar and Alluminium water-bottles for activities.
We hope you will find your way back to us sometime in the future, we would love to welcome you back.
Until then,
Salang Sentle (Stay well)

Just outside the park this beautifully positioned lodge with excellent accommodation, great staff and a real warmth. It was like returning home to the family. The guides were excellent and you must do the boat trip. A memorable day and we learned so much. Toff’s (manager) homemade gin is not bad either.
