Cid's is a great natural foods market with a very nice salad bar and some good prepared foods. I appreciate having a place to go to get clean, sustainable foods when traveling.

Insane ridiculous pricing. Like 5 bucks for eggs. 5 bucks for bread. Everything is 5 bucks or 10. And the funny thing is: this town is filled with dirt poor hippies and druggies and low lifes. Who is this market selling to? It's another reason to cross off Taos from future destinations. Dirty, rundown city. Over priced Mexican food and super market. See the gorge and leave.

Hey Ozbu,

We, as opposed to what you may view us as, are a small independent natural grocer with only one store, one of the last left in the country. All of the big chains (you know who they are) have bought up most of the little guys, yet we stand strong delivering not only the best products we can get our hands on, yet also carrying as many local products as we possibly can. We also, unlike the big guys, are committed to organic healthy produce, high quality ethically raised meats without antibiotics or hormones added, and having NOTHING on our shelves that contains artificial or modified ingredients or preservatives. We are also located in the middle of nowhere, which obviously affects delivery charges on specialty groceries. Lastly on this topic, as we are a small independent, we do not get the same bulk/pallet discounts on items that bigger stores do. Economy of scale is a very real thing in the grocery business.

We are truly a mom & pop that has done well over the years, with 70 full time employees who not only provide superior customer service, yet all have benefits and profit sharing retirement funds. By shopping at Cid's, you are supporting a local business that not only supports other local businesses and creates countless jobs doing so, yet also you our supporting our own community give-back. Last year we gave over $20k to local non-profits via our bring-your-own-bag program, and another $20k+ to local causes and the arts. A thriving community is signified by thriving local business, so choosing to spend your money here keeps our little mountain town strong. So whether or not what you saw when you were in Taos was a dirty rundown city (City? Really? We're barely a town!), those of us that have chosen to live our lives here love it here...and we hope you come back with an open mind to the challenges of running an independent business in a world of corporatism if you ever come back to our little corner of Northern New Mexico.

Cheers...

While not cheap, Cid's has amazing stuff you can't find just anywhere. If it is unusual and excellent quality, you won't do better than Cid's. It is a foodie paradise. Go once and you will be back anytime you are in Taos.

Go to Whole Foods, Sprouts, Trader Joes, & others in Tulsa 4-5x/week, so I think I've got good basis for comparisons ... Cid's has far better prepared, tastier, take-out food - better/huge selection, much more innovative, significantly lower prices. What's there not to love here?? Net/net: Cid's ready-made "take-out's" are simply terrific. Especially good soups, salad bar, daily burrito specials, & great breakfasts - especially love there oatmeal/fixin's. Check-out their baked goods - wonderful bagels. Their daily special meals are less$$$ than cook-@-home. Lastly, their take-out sushi would be top-shelf in any big city - but, is about your only-shelf/choice in Taos. As to branded type goods - one's the same as the other whether bought at Cid's, Whole Foods, Farmers Market, Sprouts, Natural Grocers, etc. - same stuff. But Cid's is less $$$, great selection, & their accompanying exceptional take-out gives Cid's a big edge over everyone else ... except in tiny Taos, there really aren't other of these type large grocery stores.
Note: we really also like that these guys promote/feature a huge variety of interesting local made products. Actually found some great chili's & Mexican foods fit for gringos that love this stuff, but can't handle scorched tonsils.

What a surprise. Great find. Enjoy.

GREAT smaller Whole Foods type store, great choices, fresh produce, etc. Very pleasant surprise in an out of the way place. Would definitely be my choice of shopping sites if I lived in the area.
