“The best stay on a wonderful two-week journey”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2011

We spent two weeks driving from SLC to northern new mexico, and among numerous one-night stays in everything from 4 star hotels to at least one rather shabby motel, we found our stay in Taos Country Inn the best. Taos itself was a very charming small town and seem to have both ski areas, hiking, and the Rio Grande Gorge. The star attraction in the region, however, is obviously the UNESCO world herritage site Taos Pueblo (well worth the trip by itself). We spent only one day, but a month after returning we remember this Inn to be the best stay on the entire trip. Yolanda (the hostess) was very hospitable and made our stay excellent. It might seem a bit off when one arrives, but it is in fact only a few minutes driving from the center. On the other hand, the scilence at night is quite breathtaking - like a one-night retreat for stressed out city people; both exciting and fully relaxing at the same time. We have absolutely nothing to complain about - except maybe that we had to return to SLC and our flight home after only one night.

This is a wonderful B&B outside of Taos. At night the coyotes howl and yip, but the local dogs also carry on sometimes. That isn't much of a problem, but would be less of a problem if the inn had air conditioning so that you didn't have to leave the windows open. That and the fact that the grout should be replaced in the bathroom are the only complaints I have about this great B&B.

One of the things that makes it great is the innkeeper, who went out of her way to tell us where to go for great meals, shopping, hiking, general sightseeing, etc. She also cooked great breakfasts. She is fantastic.

We were tired one night and ordered pizza to be delivered. Yolanda brought out dishes, silverware, and napkins "in case the pizza place doesn't bring them" before she retired for the night.

If you want a glitzy hotel in the middle of Taos, then don't stay here. If you like the personal touch, then this is your B&B.

Room Tip: We asked for the "Luxury Room" and were very happy. I don't know about the other opti...

Lots of character in a genuine old southwest house/compound on back roads near Taos. You can see elk grazing in the evening from the back patio, and hear coyotes howl at night. Nice grounds. The rooms are large and comfortable (but the TV's tiny). There is wireless internet, but it doesn't cover the entire house. Breakfast is good.

Some problems: there is no A/C -- not fatal in a traditional adobe house, but it would help if the windows worked properly to get some air at night. Of the four windows in our room, only one worked -- two were broken and one lacked a screen (letting in lots of bugs). The ice machine was broken -- not good in a place where one can get dehydrated easily.

The owner is friendly, with many helpful suggestions for activities and restaurants. Would have given 5 stars if there were an ice machine and the windows all worked.

We stay here every time we go to Taos. Wouldn't consider any where else. Yolanda knows Taos like no one else and she is more than willing to share with her guests! The rooms are warm and elegant. The Inn has an out of town feel while being close to everything! Can't say enough about this lovely place. Fantastic breakfasts, too!

Taos Country Inn Bed & Breakfast is a wonderful place. I highly recommend it to anyone that is seeking a true Taos experience. The best breakfast in all of town. I will be a long lasting customer to The Taos Country Inn for the rest of my life. Thank you Yolanda!
