To be fair, we just drove around it, but there are shops and restaurants within walking distance, and it's old-timer and photogenic.

We were decidedly disappointed with Socorro. It felt like it was a tired and ill kept little town. All (well not all) of the town in on California Street which parallels the Interstate. We drove around a bit after checking in. I was interested in their downtown plaza area. After experiencing the Santa Fe, Taos and Las Vegas, NM plazas, I was looking forward to a nice plaza area where we could stroll and possibly get a drink.

Well, this wasn't the place. The plaza area is rather non-descript with stores around it. It isn't very inviting. And there's no place if interest to go shopping. We were quite disappointed.

We went to Bosque to see the birds and stayed in Socorro. Stopped by the Plaza since there is not much more to see in Socorro.

Beautiful plaza! It has memorials erected for each branch of the military. That's great to see! Would recommend that you just drive around it to see it. We went around it a couple of times to see it all.

Well maintained square in historic Socorro. Worth a look, but not a major stop. Pretty quiet on a Sunday afternoon.
