Our stay at Simbavati Hilltop lodge a week and a half ago was unforgettable. The facilities and staff were all five star (especially Rey and Shaddy-our driver/guide/tracker team and Andrew-our butler). We saw all the big 5 throughout our four day stay. The bonus delighter was the many animal babies we saw (water buffalo, rhino, hippo, elephant and hyena). It was slightly windy so we weren't bothered by any mosquitoes, and the temperature ranged between 90 and 70F so it was comfortable. The food was outstanding (we enjoyed trying Kudu)- luckily my safari pants were stretchy. I thought I would be afraid to walk around as the lodge isn't fenced but it was safe and the staff took care to escort us at night. I enjoyed hanging out on the day bed watching random animals walking in front our tent. I was sure a wart hog was sleeping under our tent platform but in the end we figured out it was the sound of the hippo in the nearby river. There was no need for a big camera zoom lens as the animals are so close by. This is a close proximity/quality experience, not a mass migration/quantity experience. This lodge is more appropriate for adults than for families, but the staff were accommodating to our teen daughters.

Game drivers highly experienced, they try to fullfill customer's requirements for animal viewing. All personnel is very polite, it's noticeable that there is a good working enviroment where the customer is their priority. The food is outstanding. The accomodation are great with privacy and incredible views.

We had transfer from the airport to the lodge and already had our first animal sightings. So it looked promising for the gamedrives. The arrival was very pleasant. We had a warm welcome and got introduced to the staff. Our arrival was a bit delayed but they directly prepared lunch for us- everybody else had already eaten. Afterwards we were taken on a tour and to the "tent" where the luggage was already waiting and which offered perfect privacy. Outdoor daybed, outdoor showers and a "throne" with breathtaking views- in the following days already a first row seat for game viewing.
Later that day first game drive and the first big 3. Tracker and Guide where amazing- they proved that the next days as well. Wonderful Booma for dinner- fantastic service, reading the wishes from our eyes and the milky way clearly visible before going to bed.
In the first night only some Hippo and Hyaena noises and in the morning next game drive. On this second or actually first complete day, we finished the big 5. We know this was luck and we didn't expect to see them all. We met people that were there for the x. time and until this time they had never found a Leopard. So don't expect miracles, but they will find the animals that are there. We also had a less successful game drive with a lot of wind and one with heavy rain- it was still a lot of fun.
Great food, great drinks, great service, great trackers.
Not for kids- families better go to River Lodge, the little ones would get bored- this is made for adults. We came as a couple and had an amazing time.

Room tip: All perfect, some with some more stairs

A magical place. Lovely staff, great food, gorgeous accommodation, the best guides ever! We spent 4 nights at the lodge and saw all Big 5 more than once. A safari experience of a lifetime!! We met folks who work at other lodges in Kruger Park and came to stay at Simavati, confirming the remarkable game viewing experience.

Room tip: all house-tents are equally beautiful - you cannot go worng

We spent three nights and four days at the lodge. The staff were excellent and the facilities comfortable. The food was superb and reflected the local dishes. The highlight of the stay was the safari trips in the morning and afternoon. The guide Colbert and tracker Derrick we’re knowledgeable and accommodating to our needs and questions. This was a wonderful experience of South African animals and the region. Excellent experience!
