“Amazing Safari!”
Reviewed 8 November 2011

What an amazing vacation! Everyone at Honeyguide made us feel so welcome. Our guides Lyton and Walter were amazing. We saw the Big 5 on our first drive! Our tent, which was right next to the watering hole, gave us a great view of the Cape Buffalo stopping by for a drink and we could hear the hippo taking a nightly swim.

Our tent was very nice and the food was delicious – the chef even made special vegetarian dishes for us.

Thank you for a great vacation!

Thank you so much for posting this wonderful review of your recent stay with us at Honeyguide. We are delighted to see how much Lyton and Walter contributed to the enjoyment of your stay and your safari experience. We have been extremely fortunate to have the waterhole visited on a daily basis by elephant and buffalo and wonderful that you could see this from the deck of your tent. Warmest regards Peter, Lyton and Walter and the rest of the Honeyguide Team.

Wasn't sure about this place at first, staying in the bush without any fences round our camp - but this was one of the most memorable experiences of my time in South Africa.

If you're after five star luxury, with all the frills and animals on tap, then this is not for you. The tents are canvas and there's more than a chance you'll be sharing it with a few insects, but if you're up for an adventure and you want to step away from the regular 'plastic' safari lodges, this is the place for you.

Food is amazing, there's wi fi in the tents (!!!) and the game drives give you a great chance to see the big five and a lot more.

Highly recommended.

There's a very mellow, relaxed vibe here and it's a great place to get away from it all and see the bush as it's meant to be seen.

So many memories of an African safari location.
The tents are very comfortable. Maybe some people may feel out of their comfort zone by the "openess" of them.
The food was outstanding. The organisation of the twice daily safaris very impressive.
Our guide, Dries, just made the whole visit so special for us.
Expect early mornings, early to bed evenings and a mind, on leaving, packed with so many memories.
We would certainly return.

Room Tip: It's not a hotel; and it's not an "attraction". It's a wholly unique African s...

If you want the real bush experience, Mantobeni is the place to be!! Very nice and well equipped tents in the middle of the bush where all the animals can visit you because there are no fences. There was even an elephant drinking out of the swimming pool and we were watching him from just a few meters.....

The staff is very relaxed, the food is incredible and our rangers Wayne and Wikus really gave us a lot of information. It is very nice that the ranger and even the management will join the guests at lunch- and dinnertime.
We have seen all of the big five and have even seen wild dogs! Also we have seen lions, hyena, jackal and vultures at a kill. Very good sightings!

This was our fourth time in Sout Africa, but the first time in Mantobeni and we will definitely come back. Until now Mantobeni has been the best lodge and the most layback with the most information we ever had.

Keep on the good work!! Hopefully we will see you soon.......

Mark and Cindy Rinket

It was wonderful for us at Honeyguide to read your review on your recent stay with us at our Mantobeni Camp. Great that you had such good game sightings, wild dogs are a rarity and a treat but important to us that you enjoyed the relaxed feel of the camp. Thank you for mentioning that Wayne and Wikus contributed to the enjoyment of your stay. We look forward to your next visit. Warmest regards from the Honeyguide Team. Peter Aucamp

From the moment you arrive in mantobeni you are aware that you have made a great choice. This is not the standard facsimile androgeneous type of safari experience to be found in much of south africa and is more reminiscent of the high end tented camps such as kirawira and olivers camp in tanzania. Our tent overlooked a a watering hole where waterbuck and and other antelope gathered in the evening. We had several velvet monkeys visiting in pursuit of biscuit crumbs from our morning coffee. The day starts early with a drum beat at mantobeni when your flask of coffee is served on your tent balcony shortly after 7am. The game drives are great and this part of kruger is amazingly beautiful. Breakfasts lunch and dinner are of a very high quality and cooked by the very erudite and polite nicholas originally from zimbabwe. The guides and the managers join the entire group around one large table for dinner and if you are lucky as we were to have an entertainer or two it makes for a very enjoyable evening. The experience here is less than half the price and is twice as good as its competition in places like shamwari bayethe where we visited also. Well done all at Mantobeni it was difficult to leave after 4 days and we look forward to returning.

Room Tip: the tent nearest the dining area on the right overlooks the watering hole and with its big leather c...

Thank you for your feedback on your stay at Honeyguide's Mantobeni camp. We are delighted to see that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for mentioning Nicholas our chef - at present working for a few weeks at our city hotel before returning to Honeyguide before returning to Honeyguide and that you appreciated the guides and managers joining you for meals. We enjoyed sharing our beautiful part of the African bush with you and hope that we will have an opportunity of hosting you sometime again in the future.
