Kyle Gordon, the Ranger made our stay exciting & memorable

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 May 2023

I visited Londolozi for 4 nights with my wife.
As I am a wildlife photographer,I had booked 6 private safari's.
Accordingly, I was allocated an excellent Ranger,Kyle Gordon, who was absolutely brilliant with the positioning of his vehicle always at the right angle and light for photography. He even taught me how to photograph the critically endangered Southern Ground Hornbill. Some of the special photography I was able to do with the help of Kyle's deep knowledge of the private reserve was:

1.Cheetah making a kill of an Impala
2.Head on shots of the Ndhzengha male lion
3.Mating lions
4.Xinzale,the female leopard with a kill on a tree
5.Saddle-billed Stork
6.Male Water buck
7.Lion & 2 cubs in the evening golden light
8.Zebra's fighting & running
9.Roaring lion in the fading evening light
10.Pride of female lions & 7 cubs
and many other animals & birds

What I liked about Founders Camp, Londolozi:

1.Recently renovated Camp
2.Very spacious rooms with several shower options
3.Private pool
4.An outside sit down area overlooking the forest
5.Dinner with my personal Ranger thrice in a 4 nights stay
6.Early morning wake up call with coffee and biscuits
7.The very friendly Camp Managers,Rob & Simon who often personally served meals to the guests
8.Game drives starting at 6:00am & 3:00pm, earlier than some other lodges in Sabi Sand

The icing on the cake was the very special welcome greeting by Simon the Camp Manager and Camp staff on my return from the morning safari on 22 May and the special birthday gift of a thermos.

Thank you ,Londolozi.

Londolozi should be your only choice for a safari experience in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. From the moment you arrive on the airstrip when your ranger and tracker pick you up to the moment they bring you back to the airstrip to depart and wave goodbye as you plane takes off, you will be treated to the most exceptional experience you will ever have. Their attention to detail and to meeting every expectation is second to none. From the lovely breakfasts and lunches to the open air dinners your culinary desires will be met. Their location is amazing in the game reserve and you will see all of the animals you came to see - multiple times. You start with a 6:30am game drive and end with a 3:30pm game drive in the winter months which is when we visited. Game drives last about 3 hours. In between you will have breakfast and lunch and have leisure time to relax by the pool or on your private deck. The Healing House is wonderful and I do recommend a spa treatment while you are there. The shop for souvenirs is small but has some lovely things to remind you of your trip. Spend some time in the photography studio to maximize your pictures as they will help you edit and develop your photos into the perfect souvenir. We stayed 5 nights which seemed to be the perfect amount of time to take in all that Londolozi has to offer. As you can see from other reviews this place is top notch and you can book with confidence that you will have an incredible time. Food was outstanding for breakfast and lunch and good for dinner where it is prepared buffet style outside. Melvin our ranger and Milton our tracker were outstanding. We laughed with them the whole time we were with them. You spend 6 hours a day with your assigned range and tracker so you get to know them pretty well. My wife cried everyday because of the beauty of Londolozi and because of the way the people there treated us. When it was time to say goodbye on the airstrip to our ranger and tracker we all cried and hugged and promised to see each other again. We have booked a return trip in 2026 and hope to see all of our friends again. We can't wait. Don't wait to book your safari - life is short and this is the place that you will want to spend your time in South Africa.

Room tip: Request a Superior Chalet in Varty Camp which is the hub of all things Londolozi. Spend a few days in Cape Town before or after your safari

Three generations went together to create new memories. Did we create them!!! The location, facilities and staff are beyond special. We got to see, leopards, elephants, buffalos, rhinos and lions in one drive, the big 5. Every time we thought they could not make it more special the manage to do it wether it be a sundowner for our whole family that looked out of a magazine to anything we could ever imagine. Got to see the final of the world cup with them and it truly shows they are a family. A special thanks to Nick and Joy that helped understand what Africa y really about.

It was my first visit to a safari and I was blown away with the whole experience. I have Kyle and the Professor to thank for that. The accommodation was second to none with clean rooms every day. The food and wine was delicious and couldn’t fault it. I can’t remember all the staff but Cute and Rob et al were all very welcoming and friendly.

This was one of the most incredible experiences we have ever had. We stayed in Varty camp and everything was perfect. The rooms and view were gorgeous. All the staff were extremely friendly and every single one went out of their way to help make our stay unforgettable. Our tracker was Equalizer and our guide was Kate. Both were very excited to show us the animals and shared a ton of knowledge. We have been lucky enough to be on other safaris in South Africa and Southern Africa and this simply was the best for the following reasons;
1) Having a guide and a tracker with 2 sets of eyes helps you find a lot more animals and allows the guests to talk with and ask questions of one of them while the other is still looking and listening.
2) All the guides and trackers communicate multiple times a day so they all know what was seen where and allows them to coordinate so as many guests as possible can see the animals without overwhelming the animals with a ton of guests at one time. All the other safaris we basically drove around and crossed our fingers.
3) There are a lot of amenities for the staff as well, including day care, and schooling. I think this becoming very common that these safaris engage the local communities and offer them something beyond wages but clearly Londolozzi is doing a whole lot more. You should ask do the "village tour" which takes you behind the scenes to where the staff live and farm and play and many other things. It takes maybe an hour.
4) The food and drink are simply great.
5) We are not photographers so we did not do this but everyone else who attended the photography workshop raved about how helpful and fun it was to do and they came out with some amazing pictures.

Some things in general about safaris
1) Most of them do complementary laundry service so you don't need to bring that many clothes with you.
2) Bring binoculars. Most of the guides have them but you can always use more.
3) Bring warm clothes for early morning safari. Eventhough they will likely have blankets, ponchos ect, its still nice to bring your own

Some things specific to Londolozzi
1) Our guide Kate had sun screen for us. Unless you are going to lay out and tan you can leave this at home as she has enough for your face each day.
2) The "Sleepy Time" bug spray they have in each room worked great and there was plenty for us to use.
3) Boyd Varty has written a number of books available on amazon, including Cathedral of the Wild, all are available in the gift shop too.
4) We didn't know about this at the time but on amazon is a book, "Tracker Manual" by Alex van den Heever et al. Its used by the Tracker Academy that works a lot on Londolozzis property. Eventhough you see a lot you obviously spend more time looking for animals than seeing them, but their tracks are everywhere so if we have had this on us we could have spent a lot more time "seeing". also the trackers get really excited talking about the tracks and there is a lot of fun things to learn just from the tracks themselves.

Overall this was truly an epic experience!!!!!!
