The Lodge is a classy old hotel nestled in the cool climate of the Sacramento Mountains. It is charming to be sure and has a rich history having hosted a fair number of celebrities in its many years of service. It does need some TLC to the property but what it lacks in modern convenience and fresh paint is more than offset by the wonderfully helpful and attentive staff. The climate is exquisite if you are looking to beat the heat. Do not expect 4-5 star amenities and spacious updated rooms and you will not be disappointed.

Room tip: The tower view at sundown is spectacular. A view of the entire valley for 20+ miles!

One our way through New Mexico, we stopped at The Lodge at Cloudcroft for another visit. While staying in Cloudcroft, we visited White Sands and Sun Spot, and hiked several of the trails in the mountains.

Room tip: I like some of the smaller rooms in the "old" part of the lodge, but these can be somewhat small.

Great hotel--we stayed in the Pavilion which is a short drive away. The room was rustic and very spacious. It was a corner room which meant windows on two sides. The stone fireplace and wood interior made this a very quaint and romantic place. We enjoyed our night there. Went to the main hotel for both dinner and breakfast. The views are fantastic. Dinner was great (the beef stew was superb). Breakfast was a small buffet. Will come back certainly. Wifi in the Pavilion was spotty at best.

Views were beautiful, but accommodations were average/lodge is run down. My family and I like to be outside and there wasn't really an outdoor "hangout" area here. Luckily, the restaurant at the lodge wasn't crowded - so, we got take out from a BBQ place down the street and played cards, had our drinks & watched the sunset from their deck. Not a big ghost guy but lots of history here... our toothpaste went missing without explanation and my mom and I had a hard time sleeping. Watch out for Rebecca, but don't worry - she's a friendly ghost ;)

We have stayed at the Lodge before and some of the points the other reviewers make are valid. Old hotels must be appreciated on their own terms but I agree that some money need to be allotted for maintenance and upgrades. Our room was clean and in good repair but the stairs carpet does need to be replaced. The staff was friendly and efficient and our room was ready even though we arrived a bit before check in time. The grounds are very scenic and if you like to golf, you'll be at one of the highest courses in the country. If you believe in hauntings, you might even get to see Rebecca.
