this place cannot be faulted. We stayed there in December 2011. Excellent central location and just back from the main street ,extremely quiet. Though we had the second least expensive room (Uitsig with view) it was enormous with large windows on three sides. My recollection is 9 in all. so the room was full of light and had a balcony. A large and comfortable bed which was bigger than a super king. Housekeeping was superb with the room being cleaned sheets etc changed by the time we returned from breakfast. The (free) laundry service promised next day but in fact was same day. There was a free well stocked mini bar and a free mobile phone to use as well as uk adaptors. Breakfast had everything, with home made items and everything cooked to order. The owners were keen to assist and gave freely of their local knowledge and e. g.printed off maps for us for routes to Stellenbosch etc. If you want to stay in Franschhoek don't stay anywhere else.

This was our fourth time at Akademie Street and it remins the best placed we have ever stayed. We stayed in Oortuiging this time around which was wonderful and our favourite, although it is difficult to pick a favourite as all of the accommodation is great.

It was so good that we felt guilty when we were not in our lovely old cottage and spent most of the time either inside or outside in the wonderful garden relaxing. We had great weather and had just the most relaxing time. The accommodation oozes what I can only describe as a timeless high quality style.

The breakfasts are to die for and the staff are so friendly as of course are Arthur, Katherine and Hazel. We are a couple that like to try different places but we just keep coming back to Akademie Street and I really can't think of enough superlatives to describe the accommodation and all round ambience of staying at Akademie Street. We will be back again!!

Room Tip: They are all great, but our favourites are Oortuiging for the garden and Gelatenheid for the enormou...

This was our first ever trip to South Africa and we had already stayed in some lovely places during our first week in this beautiful country. However, Franshoek and Akademie Street were something else entirely. We were bowled over by the understated elegance of the accommodation, the attention to detail and the almost tangible tranquility. All the staff were unfailingly friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. Breakfast was delicious and the garden a delight. Katherine and Arthur were charming and wove a truly magical spell!

Room Tip: You will feel privileged in any room.

We spent 2 nights at Akademie and wished we could have stayed longer. From the moment of arrival the service was exceptional in every aspect and delivered with warmth and care. As others have described the building and rooms, I can only add with amazement that everything is complimentary. Yes even the laundry service. Clearly the Akademie has only one focus and that is you as a guest. The Akademie only serves breakfast but even that is an outstanding experience with everything laid out in front of you on your table. The location is perfect and safe for a short evening stroll to sample the food at any one of the many outstanding restaurants in the main street.

This beautiful B&B so close to the centre of Franschhoek is perfect. Katherine and Arthur are two of the nicest people who really care about your stay and not their own profit margins! The rooms are private in beautiful gardens are equipped with everything you could think of and some you couldn't. So many little extras - I won't spoil it all and leave it for you to discover!
