Fantastic position on the main street of Franschhoek you cannot miss Le Coin Francais. We did not book but there were tables on the verandah free (I think the other patrons wanted air conditioning inside!) and service was impeccable. We decided to have a blow out and went for the pairing tasting menu. We therefore tasted 12 different dishes with 12 different wines between us as a couple, so we took our time and had a fabulous evening listening to the delicious descriptions from our maitre d' and the very knowledgeable sommelier. This team clearly works together and respects each other and their chef. One small criticism is that our ears got a little weary from the superlative adjectives used for the wines, but then again my palate is not so sophisticated and I am happy to admit it. I am sorry that some people gave this a place bad review and had a bad experience but I always check out their own credentials before taking things too much to heart - see how many reviews they have actually written and how many of those were bad. People love to complain, but to compliment - not so much! We will be advising all our overseas visitors to come and eat here even if they only have one night in town.

New this Chef maybe in the village but a very knowledgeable head on young shoulders. Franschhoek village is very lucky to have this Chef & team from Grande Provence- superb. We elected to have the 6 course menu but please don’t think of it as a tasting menu, there are choices & really it’s just 3 small courses with lots of tiny amuse bouchée to go with them. Excellent selection of wines to compliment each dish. Delightful conversion of the cafe into a small, modern restaurant. Good luck to all concerned.

Went with friends on the last night of our South African holiday - without doubt some of the best food I have ever eaten. Combined with impeccable service and very reasonable prices this is a restaurant not to be missed - 5 stars plus.

I am almost reluctant to leave another 5 star review for this restaurant as I know it will become very difficult to book into very shortly. We arrived slightly early and were shown to our table with a smile - luckily the tables are well spaced, and the bench seats at the right height for a change (so you don't feel like a 3 year old) and the chair backs low to give more of a feeling of space in the restaurant. Service start to finish was effortless, friendly and efficient. Special mention to Nash the somelier who knew his stuff, and was enthusiastic about all things Franschhoek. The food was sublime - we had one of everything on the tasting menu between us (opting for the 6 courses without wine pairings). We never felt rushed, the service was brilliant, the lighting friendly and the crockery beautiful. I can't wait to go back.
To those comparing it unfavourably to La Petite Colombe, Reubens, Foliage, Ryan's Kitchen etc, I would actually say that this restaurant fills a gap that existed - those are all lovely places where I have enjoyed a good meal, but Le Coin Francais provides a cool vibe and comfortable room where a chef really focuses on just a few very good dishes for dinner, and delivers them with consistency, imagination and enthusiasm.

I'm going to keep this simple....eat here. Picasso created masterpieces on a canvas. This young chef, Darren, creates masterpieces on a plate. The front of house team led by the he talented Jasper compliments the chef just as the matching wines compliment beautifully the tasting menu which is outstanding! Levi, Webster and the impressive sommelier, Nash, add to an already great team at the his superb new Franschhoek restaurant. Great ambience and relaxed, classy, fine dining at its very best. The food simply danced off the plate. A joy to eat. 5 star in every area. We adored this restaurant and the talented team.
