I decided on this restaurant as it seemed to have a decent menu and a bar for some sports viewing. I could have gone to Freddy's and likely been more satisfied. This wasn't bad, but I should have stuck with the burgers and pizza. I had Lamb shank and it was OK, but not as good as hoped. Tender, but lacked flavor, with fake mashed.
The bar staff was slow and not very attentive in initially serving me or their follow-up.
It might be better for a sit down meal, but the menu looked more interesting that Freddy's. It wasn't in my opinion. So if you are looking for a place to have a bar meal with some sports on, I don't recommend the Stage House. It seems like one of those high volume (based on the huge parking lot) restaurants.

Food is good, presentation nice. The tables are close together and the noise volume is so loud that we cannot hear what our guests are saying. Definitely more sound proofing necessary,

Came to Somerset for business and some of my collegues took me to Stage Hous, some were a little leary as they had been to the place it was before but they needint have worries the food was great and the drinks flowed, it was a little busy but that is a sign of a good place not a negative, a little negative was the prices but the steak I had was well worth the 20 bucks for a New York Strip.

Even if Somerset were not a sleepy suburb in New Jersey, Stage House Tavern would stand out. Clearly, the best place to go if you need a good drink, a good crowd, or a good meal when you're around. It's location seems almost an attraction unto itself, as you drive winding country roads to get there. It's huge, practically a compound. Inside, you get a casually upscale dining room. The next room is a big bar that extends to a huge deck and another huge bar. The crowd is lively, the staff is attentive and the food is actually fantastic. Once I discovered it, it became my go to place whenever I'm in Somerset for business. The filet is excellent, so are the parmesan crusted chicken and the half roasted chicken. Other diners rave about the filet and the nightly specials look good. If you're lucky, take advantage of $5 martinis on Tuesday night. Better than any chain restaurant nearby and value-priced for a great experience. If within 20 miles, pass by the Cheesecake Factory and McCormick and Schmicks to enjoy a NJ gem.
