“Very welcoming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 February 2012

Only stayed one night, but from what I saw a very pleasant place to stay. The reception desk was staffed with 2 staff who were completely top shelf and very professional. The lobby was very inviting. We were in room 930 and although the room was a little dated, it was very clean and very well attended to. The only complaint I have is the bed.....rock hard. I describe it as like sleeping on the sidewalk. It's 2 days later and I still have a stiff neck. We ate at Spatz (inside Romulus as Spatz was in the process of renovations). It was very good and I was pleasantly surprised. Service was excellent, presentation of food wonderful. We returned later the next day for an after funeral brunch and the food was also very, very good and plentiful. I would definitely stay again when we return to see family, but would inquire whether different bedding was available.

Room Tip: mattress hard as a rock, so inquire first

i could not say enough about the wonderful time we had New Years Eve at the Woodbridge Hilton. From the time we enter the hotel the staff was very helpful and happy to see us. Im a talker and i talk from the busboys to security guards and the were absolutly helpful and very pleasant.AS far as the food it was outragous and take it from me since im a butcher and a caterer. The brunch the next day was amazing with everything you could imagine.I cant say one thing bad about this place and highly recommend it. They give you a free nights stay with the new years package and we cant wait to go back

Thoughts and observations on the Hilton Woodside property over a series of stays this year.

1. The good.

a) The people (front desk staff, restaurants, health club) have been good. Nice mix of friendly and professional staff.
b) The food quality in the restaurants (Cafe Metro, Romulus, Spatz) has also been good. Attentive staff, good menu and good preparation. Haven't tried room service.
c) Bathroom products are nice quality.
d) Good location - close to Metropark.
e) Free health club.

2. The not-so good.

a) General decor. This is purely subjective, but the overall look and feel of the hotel is frankly dated (eg the fake antique hall telephones with gold filigree).
b) Elevators. These have a variety of billboards that are worn, badly attached and it looks like bad maintenance.
c) Rooms. I've stayed in rooms on the 7th-10th floors and I believe that as least one of those was a refurbed room.
1024 - this was incredibly noisy and right beside the ice machines/elevator. There was a school party at the hotel that night which was out of control and it was difficult to sleep. Two calls to the front desk said that they'd dispatched security but I saw no sign of it. My room preference is "away from the elevator" for what it's worth but that seems to be ignored on room assignments. The room was worn, old tv and a bathroom that looked badly repaired - paint/spackle patches on the wall and around the tub.
741 - the carpet looked dirty, and the headboard was hanging off the wall, bathroom similarly worn as above. Old tube tv.
933 - newer tv, slightly fresher bathroom but worn carpet.
1141 - similar problems to 1024

In room materials. This is frankly embarrassing. The worn and dirty guest information folder has local information that is just riddled with typos (eg. "Visit Atatalatic City"). A pamphlet claims the "Best Massage on the East Coast" but it looks like a badly photocopied 7th generation copy of a fax, which doesn't really suggest the best of anything. Having glaring mistakes in guest materials doesn't leave a positive impression of the property.
d) Internet. In room internet was not working two nights of my previous trip (a storm was responsible for one so not Hilton's fault).
e) Shuttle. I've used this twice. I was kept waiting a full hour at Metropark train station when the driver went AWOL. When I called the front desk they kept saying it was going to be 10 more minutes. Finally the manager came and got me and the other stranded guests. There was a total meltdown on front of the house operations that night.
f) Health club. Good that it's free, good equipment, shoddy locker rooms. Rusted lockers with some half hearted spray paint job.
g) Broken TV that remained broken throughout my last visit despite promises to have it fixed during the day.

Hilton has some issues system-wide. The follow-up email surveys usually fail with system problems and I find their web site often has problems.

Conclusion: if you need a hotel walkable from MetroPark, then it's a good location. Apart from that, set your expectations appropriately.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevator bank. The rooms close to there are very noisy.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a large room on the 8th floor with beautiful views.
The staff were courteous and efficient, as were the shuttle bus drivers.
The hotel runs a free shuttle to the local 'Metropark' station, from where it is about 20 mins to Newark International Airport and another 20 mins to Penn Station in the heart of Manhatten, New York - so ideal if you travelling to the Philadelphia area or wanting to sight-see in New York as we did.
The breakfast is not included and a bit pricey at $15 plus taxes but great.
If you are into Indian food, there are a few resturants in the Indiatown part of Iselin about 5 minutes drive away - great for dinners!

I have never met a more amazing staff! From top to bottom. The GM and her assistant were always visible, the front desk staff were very welcoming, housekeeping was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was unbelievably amazing. Would recommend this for any one staying in NJ
