Drove down this weekend with hubby for weekend getaway at great Cape May. The check in went smooth, the front desk staff was very helpful and I was really happy to have been upgraded to Room 1 at the Pink Cottage which is king oceanview room, 37 in plasma tv and sitting area. Great view to the Ocean. I booked very last minute as I always stay at the Virginia Hotel but for one night it was not bad staying at the Pink Cottage. The Valet was wonderful and I needed fresh towels and they assisted. The housekeeping was nowhere to be found or even asked if we needed anything. The bathroom had two light bulbs out by the mirror and the outlet in the bathro;om does not work, but the shower was amazing.
PROS: GREAT LOCATION, A SHORT SKIP TO THE BEACH. LOVE THE VIRGINIA HOTEL I STAY THERE THREE TIMES OR MORE A YEAR. GREAT VALET, ALWAYS GOES THE EXTRA MILE TO HELP OUT NOT JUST ABOUT PARKING CARS. GREAT ROOM #1 AT THE COTTAGE VERY BIG AND SPACIOUS, THE BED SO COMFORTABLE TO SLEEP IN BETTER THAN MY BED AT HOME. AWESOME LINENS AND DUVET COVERS
CONS: Pink Cottage the walls are thin, you can hear everyone. The porch door some guests did not know how to just close it instead the door will slam everytime they come in and out. Towels were a bit dingy, but the valet took care of that and brought over fresh towels. No safe in the room so take your valuables with you because even the door to the room I could have kicked it in and walked right in. The room is in need of a paint job in the ceiling and get rid of those ugly round orange pillows... does not go with the decor in the room. The room really needs a nice small writers desk and a phone to call front desk instead of going downstairs to the foyer. The door to the kitchen was closed when it should have not since there is no ice machine or even refrigerator in the room. It would have been nice to used the kitchen for a glass of milk or have some pastries or continental breakfast in the morning instead of crossing the street to eat continental breakfast .
RESTAURANTS: We had lunch at The Ugly Mug, good service had the pastrami sandwich and a malibu bay breeze which was nice. Had the calamari for appetizers not bad. We then had dinner at the Ebbitt Room at the Virginia Hotel which was awesome, had the flounder and hubby had the salmon. The butternutsquash soup was awesome, but the french martinis were outstanding. The best stop Sunday morning was breakfast at Georges Place, the best french toast I have ever had. Be sure to get there early as its not a big restaurant and you have to wait.
All in all it was a great weekend, romantic and relaxing.
