We thought this hotel was the perfect place for a family vacation. Myself, my wife our 12 year old and 5 year old loved this place. While certainly not a luxury hotel it had the perfect mix of everything, clean rooms, great staff. pool, fantastic bar and restaurant and luxury accomodations on the beach. We were met with by a professional staff and when we traveled to the beach we were asked how many chaise lounges and umbrellas we needed and they were all set up for us w towels. Back at the hotel the two queen size beds and pull out couch gave us all the sleeping room we needed. The rusty nail lounge next too our rooms had an outside fire pit and sandy beach that the kids loved to hang out in while we enjoyed a fantastic margarita mixed perfectly to end the day. The entertainment at the rusty nail was super and all was quiet and closed up by 930-10pm. we cant wait to go back.

If you can't have a good time here, something is wrong. The location is about the best in Cape May. Walk to the beach and be pampered and waited on; walk to the mall to shop and dine in the evening or walk to the end of Beach Ave. and check out the lighthouse and Conservatory park. The beds are comfy, the room was made up to perfection each day. The staff was always stepping and working to make something better. Check in was very efficient and friendly, check out the same. The renovations were well done and we could not hear others beside, above or below us. Look at the prices in Cape May and compare this, you will find it to be a great place. Nothing is perfect, but this is a very good place to stay and have fun in Cape May.

The Beach Shack is a sister property to Congress Hall and the Virginia. Its rates are about two-thirds of those properties. If you're expecting a Congress Hall experience for two-thirds the price, you're going to a be disappointed. The Shack is a refurbished (not renovated) motor lodge. Our room was spacious, clean, cool and fully functional. The beach was approximately 100 feet from our front door, complete with complementary beach service. The cable tv is terrible, the wireless Internet is spotty but did I mention the beach is 100 feet away? The pool is small but less crowded than Congress Hall's. There's food service at both the pool and beach from the Rusty Nail and both were surprisingly prompt. We saved almost $1,000 staying at the Beach Shack compared to our usual Congress Hall bill.

Booked room spur of the moment according to the reviews on-line thought we were getting a nice place to stay. When we arrived we found a nice room with 2 queen beds and a sofa bed but wasn't till we got back that night we had ANTS in our room, so we didn't get much sleep that night so went down to front desk first thing in morning they asked if we wanted the room treated or a new one we took the new room but it was in a spot with no view,so what I am trying to say is if you plan on staying there take a room on the second or third level it seems the rooms are better but for what you will pay you will be able to find a better place that offers more for your money.

Well, let's just say I'm on the fence on this one.. I'm not gonna lie, the location and beach service were awesome. But before "The Beach Shack" can truly provide the level of accomodations that match its steep price tag,it may need a new "trend" consultant. As the previous reviewer stated, the rooms were just a half-baked facelift. The air conditioning(in the bedroom) was pretty much a glorified fan, and the front room of the 2 room efficiency had no ceiling fan, a bit toasty to say the least. There was also a faint musty smell that permeated the rooms,no dressers for clothes, bathroom still had old mustard gold bathtub and 1970s style french provincial sink base,oh but it did have a stainless sink bowl,so I guess that justifies the overpriced rates. The staff was very friendly, but I still couldn't help but feeling ripped off. Check in was at 3,and I have in all my travels almost always been able to come up to the desk a little early and check in . Not so at "The Beach Shack",I actually couldn't get in until after 3, they also tacked on $125/day at check in "for incidentals",just in case. There is also a lovely large deck that overlooks the beach, with chairs and lounges. As a guest, one would assume it is accessible to all guests. Oh no, not so at "The Beach Shack", don't even try to relax on the deck or Queen Cougar will stick her leathery face out the door and snipe,"THIS IS PRIVATE,YOU KNOW". No your highness, I didn't know , how about some "Private Deck " signs posted to keep us common folk out of sight.
