To be honest, we were concerned that our review could be biased; after all we know people who work there, and we are familiar with one of the owners, who also happens to be an outstanding chef. None of our concerns proved valid, for the restaurant both surprised and amazed us by its every aspect and facet.
Starting from the waiting staff uniform; we still remember when it was a standard in every great eating establishment. The location, both cozy and offering comfortable seating, without too close of a distance between the tables. The menu, offering not just your staple varieties of every other 'Ristorante Italiano' in NJ, but so many great choices, perfectly designed, attractively presented and impeccably cooked.
Even though Toscano is famous for its steaks, probably the best ones in the area, the menu offers an extensive line-up of other choices, pasta dishes, fish courses (our Ahi Tuna was superbe), interesting appetizers (the Tri-Color Beet Salad was more than delectable) and many delicious desserts, all made on premises.
Highly recommended. 5 stars indeed!

One of the top 10 meals we've ever had. We were given a gift certificate a bit ago. It had expired recently and when we called ahead, we were told they would still honor our gift certificate. Wow!
We started with Emma's Meatballs and Pane Toscano... a cheesy, garlicky bread with carmalized onions. The bread was outstanding. The meatballs were easily the best meatballs I've ever eaten. Can you imagine meatballs being described as "creamy"? Not kidding.... these meatballs were so very creamy.
The rest of our meal was equally outstanding... chicken parmigiana and rigatoni carbonara...right down to the pot de creme.
Wonderful server.... Derek... and very attentive service from everyone from the moment we walked in to the moment we left.
Our only partially negative experience was the noise level. At the start of our meal, we had to speak really loud and still struggled to carry on a conversation across our cozy table. The issue was not with the restuarant but with the 5 men sitting next to us carrying on a loud conversation. Other patrons had to speak louder at their own tables and in that area of the dining room, it was frustrating. However, once the group left, the noise level was just perfect for a nice, calm, relaxing evening.
A great evening and we can't wait to go back to try other menu items... and those meatballs!!

What is there to say about a place that is as close to perfect as it can get - save being in New York City, Paris, or Tuscany? Chef Zack Melker is a artist; creative, hardworking, and consistent. The people he has surrounded himself with are a stellar group dedicated to making every single solitary experience had memorable. And I've had a few....

A must!
