Courtesy and friendly staff. Well maintained rooms. Exceptionally clean in every part of the Lodge. This is our second trip. We will definitely be back. Carol and Will make you feel like family. The grounds are beautiful with ample parking and terrific view of the mountains.

Clean rooms, nice views, good wifi. House cat was nice. Good proximity to some of the trails on the south west side of Mount Washington. Only issue I had was no refrigerator in rooms, but you could use the refrigerator in the basement, which was two flights of stairs down, so, a little bit inconvenient, but nothing I couldn't deal with. There isn't much in the way of nearby dining options like what Gorham has. We went to the food co-op in Littleton, about a 20 minute drive.

Room Tip: We were top floor, and all the way to the left as you look at the building from the front. View was good.

Dated decor, plenty of upholstery cluttering all open areas, pretty flowers outside and plenty of plastic arrangements inside. Good for overnight passing through . Very good value and easy to find location

Will C, Owner at Carlson's Lodge, responded to this reviewResponded 20 September 2017

Hi Elizabeth S,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry that our decor had such a negative effect on your stay with us. We recommend that prospective guests please take a look at our website as well as our facebook page and pictures on TripAdvisor to get a feel of our business. We are a Lodge in the White Mountains as well as a family business that is not a chain, all of which is reflected in the decor and feel of the common areas. However if our look is not something you would enjoy, we don't hold it against you and will be happy to make suggestions for other places to stay in the area. While the look we are going for is something not overly modern we do offer modern amenities. We have flat screen TV's and wifi in all the rooms as well having updated all of the rooms within the last couple years with new carpet, new wooden bed frames, new mattresses (one firm and one plush in all rooms with two beds), new flat screen TV's, new drapes, and triple sheeting the beds instead of quilts.

Thank you,
Will

I have enjoyed several stays at Carlson's for a White Mountain experience - most recently, late this summer. Located in Twin Mountain, an ideal location, just below the Presidential range. The grounds are well landscaped, with plenty of gorgeous flower beds and lawn chairs, all with a mountain view, including the well kept swimming pool! The lodge itself is immaculate, cozy, and welcoming. The staff, including the onsite owner are both friendly and helpful, and ready to provide guests with information and suggestions, about things to do and see to enhance your stay! The rooms are very comfortable and homey, some even have kitchenettes. The beds themselves are super comfortable and cozy. The continental breakfast is offered each morning, and has some of the best coffee I've ever had! In my view, on a scale from 1 to 10, this makes an easy 10! All of this with a fantastic value!

Room Tip: A room in the front of the building, provides a great mountain vista!

Had a fantastic 4 days in this lodge. Decided to stay here since we wanted to do the Cog railway and get to a few spots around the Flume Gorge area. It really had a central location to most of the activities we did.

Our corner room was very spacious and clean. Breakfast was simple but sufficient. They also had a game room on the basement and a terrace that provided a lovely view of the surrounding mountains.

Our host was also very cordial and had plenty of recommendations on where to eat and other things to do within the White Mountains.
