This lodge is special...due to the family that owns and manages it with Love! The lodge is comfortable with amazing beds! It is also immaculate with quaint decor fitting a country lodge. It is also very convenient if you are planning to ride the Cog railway up Mt. WAshington. Complimentary continental breakfast is served daily.

Hi Havanared,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay with us! The lodge is definitely a labor of love and one that requires much attention. The new mattresses we purchased have definitely proven to be well worth the investment and it is great to be able to give guests an option of a firm or plush mattress in all rooms with two beds. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and hope you had a great trip up The Cog! Hopefully we will see you again.

Thank you,
Will

My family and I came up to be vendors at the Railway to the Moon Steampunk Festival and we stayed at the Carlson. We are from southern NH so we arrived very late. (11:00 pm). When we we're almost there the owner called up to make sure we weren't lost and to give precise directions because the GPS wouldn't send us in the right direction. I have never stayed anywhere where the owner waited up fr us and called to see if you are ok! The room was cozy and immaculate. The beds were wonderful. The location is landscapes beautifully with so many lovely flowers in bloom. It was an absolute pleasure to be their guests and look forward to visiting again!!

Hi Robyn,

We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for taking the time to write a review! Hopefully the steampunk festival went well! Although we are located on a main road, car/stand alone GPS units can be notoriously unreliable for directions when you get close. Our location is accurate on Google Maps as we are able to edit the business location and make corrections. We ask for arrival time estimates when taking reservations directly to anticipate rushes but also to keep track of people who are going to be arriving late. There is nothing worse than getting lost late at night on dark roads in the mountains where cell service can be spotty and starts off the guests' stay with us on the wrong foot. We would much rather be checking in happy guests than ones who are frustrated from getting lost and this way everyone gets to go to bed a little bit sooner. All of the hard work in the spring pays off this time of year when all the flowers are in bloom. We look forward to having you again, possibly for next year's steampunk festival if not sooner!

Thank you,
Will

I booked Carlsons lodge almost a year before goung just for one night before we travelled on to Maine and had been looking forward to it all year. The setting looked so beautiful and the lodge homely and quaint. I was not dissapointed at all, the place is wonderful. We had the two room family suite normally only used for stays of a few days but it was perfect for us. The rooms were spacious, clean and tastefully decorated in the lodge style. The communal areas were also homely and welcoming if a little spooky when the lights were off first thing (we were up very earpy to continue our journey). My kid loved the outdoor pool though my wife and I were too chicken to brave the relatively cold water. The location was breathtaking and perfect for the cog railway we visited in the day. I just wish we could have spent longer there.

Hi Nick,

We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and thank you for taking the time to write a review! We don't often get new guests who have booked that far in advance (usually return guests who book the next year when they leave) but we are happy that you found us and we lived up to your expectations. The lobbies and hallways can definitely be a little creepy in the dark but especially in off seasons when no one is here and a particularly strong gust of wind makes the building creak. As a side note: I definitely remember as a little kid running from the room I stayed in to the back rooms where my grandparents were because I was scared when no one else was in the building.

We hope the rest of your trip went well in Maine and returning home. Hopefully we will see you again and you can stay longer rather than passing through.

Thank you,
Will

I didn't expect much, but this place was really special. Nothing fancy and kind of a ski lodge look with clean rooms and comfortable beds. Close to hiking trails and close enough to restaurants. The innkeeper was really nice and extremely helpful. She took the time to suggest hiking trails based on our time constraints, provided us with a map of the area and suggested restaurants (and even called ahead to make sure we got a seat on a busy night). Would definitely stay here again.

Not only is the Lodge in a beautiful location, it is filled with lovely things in a family atmosphere! Flowers were everywhere and parking was a breeze. Carol was professional and friendly and offered lots of good advice for food offerings and activities. Our room was large with two queen beds and lots of space to spread out. They had thought of everything to make a stay comfortable. I definitely recommend Carlson's Lodge as a base for exploring this part of the country.

Hi Linda,

We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and thank you for taking the time to write a review! Carlson's Lodge was built by Carl Carlson (Carol's father and my grandfather) and has been in the family the whole time which gives it its family atmosphere. It can be a challenge sometimes with all of the family decorations to find places for things and not having the building look cluttered. Parking is rarely an issue here except in winter when there are large snow banks and vehicles with snowmobile trailers and then it turns into a puzzle to make sure everyone has space but you'll have to return in winter to see that.

Thank you,
Will
