I used to come to Carlson's Lodge all the time when I was younger. I don't get to visit as often as I would like these days, but I love the place. It's in such a great part of the state for all kinds of outdoor activities and the staff is wonderful.
Although we will miss Mr. Carlson a great deal (he built the motel himself and passed away this past spring), his family does a fabulous job running the place. They are so welcoming. It makes a world of difference that the Lodge was family-built and is still family-run. Many of the guests return each year which says a lot about the attention to detail and the overall charm of the motel. Such a perfect place to stay in any season!

A clean place with very nice decorations.

But the staff stole our wallet from a drawer in the room. When we brought it up to the owner (Carol), she simply dismissed it and said that we misplaced it.

After we told her that 3 people saw that wallet in the drawer, she said that she would ask her staff and call us with the results (we were leaving). Of course, she has never called.

I stayed at Carlson's Lodge with my son and his 7 year old son. We hiked for two days in the mountains, and Carlson's was a great place to stay. The staff/owners were very friendly and helpful. The porch is great with great views of the mountains. The lobby is more like a living room. The rooms are spacious, clean. and well-kept. I will surely go back here for my returns to the mountains, and will encourage my friends to do the same. the lodge is almost like staying at a bed and breakfast, except the breakfast is more of a continental.

We went to Carlson's for our 7th anniversary and wanted to spend less on the hotel so we could splurge on a couples massage and an expensive dinner. We saved money, but got way more than our money's worth!!! The room was HUGE - much larger than any of the 'chain' hotels. And talk about quiet! Even with other guests in the hotel the room was eerily silent. Getting away from and 18 month old and a 5 year old - the quiet was an incredible surprise. Unlike at larger hotles and bigger chains, there was no elevator noise, no loud talking from adjacent rooms, no slamming doors, no in room noise from a heating system - just serene peace. And the owners were so incredibly nice and friendly. Another hidden surprise was the game room. After our massage and dinner, we came back with a bottle of wine and had some simple fun together - table shuffleboard and a couple of games of pool. It was so nice to just be comfortable in socks, playing some games, and then go back to a nice quiet room. The perfect place - this is no simple motel - it's a warm & peaceful home away from home. We'll be back next year!
