Gilley's hotdog/hamburg cart in downtown Portsmouth, NH has been around since I was a kid and I was born in 1957. In fact Gilley is a distant relative to me on my grandmother's side. He may have been maybe a 4th cousin. Anyway, this was and still is a popular place to grab a hotdog, hamburg or fries. There are other things on the menu there. I wouldn't consider this a place to dine and chill out for too long as the inside to this place is very small. It's more or less a place to grab something quick to eat and run. Gilley passed away several years ago. Back when he was alive, I was always surprised how fast that man could take several orders at the same time and never forget one. I think he was really the last of the multitasking people in our country! People used to stand on top of their cars and pull right next to his side window and place their orders. I was also told he got a parking ticket every night for years for parking his cart right in the middle of Portsmouth. His hotdogs were a favorite of mine years ago and they still are today. I would hope anyone who passes through Portsmouth, NH would stop to see for themselves! They only have a few bar stools and a counter to eat at. Certainly not a place to hang out too long.
