“Decent accommodations near Dartmouth College”
Reviewed 27 April 2012

I, too, would have liked to give this hotel a "3.5"--The staff was very courteous, friendly, and helpful. Requests for extra blanket, that we might borrow silverware and porcelain cups from the restaurant all accommodated quickly. I was given a day pass to a large health club nearby and enjoyed a yoga class at no expense. The hotel is w/in walking distance of a large and well-stocked co-op grocery store (nice, because we like to buy food and eat in). We had a suite at the end of the hall on the 1st floor--it was an Accessible room, though we hadn't requested and don't require--maybe that's the only (or best?) suite available for our stay? The property is clean and attractive, but not as modern as some of the Residence Inns where we've stayed. For example, the sofa and chairs were worn out and uncomfortable to sit in. (The bed was good, though, and THAT'S important). There is only one real negative --breakfast isn't included in the room price--my husband's buffet breakfast was over $15.00, and that seems a bit steep, esp. breakfast is part of the package for many Residence Inns and hotels of this type. A nice place to stay when in the Dartmouth area, but not a rave.

When coming to the Upper Valley, we usually stay at the Fairfield in White River Junction. This time, we tried the Courtyard. I was travelling to Dartmouth College with my daughter, using Marriott Rewards points, and the point value was the same at both locations. So I figured I'd give the Courtyard a try (it's regular rates are double what they charge at the Fairfield).

Nice property, very clean, friendly staff, very comfortable beds, great flat screen TV with Xfinity (which my daughter loved, as she could catch an episode of Grimm she'd missed). Very, very happy, until we tried to sleep.

The fan on the HVAC unit is ridiculously loud. We had the fan set to "Auto" and it woke us both up 4 times between 10:00 PM and 2:00 AM. We finally capitulated and set it to "On", so it was running non-stop. Still very, very loud, but at least the sound level was constant.

I've been noticing this trend with various Marriott properties - they tend to be fitted with very obtrusive HVAC units, which really detracts from the guests' aboility to sleep. Seems like a pretty poor choice to cut corners.

Other than that, the property was fine (though unlike the Fairfiled, the breakfast is not free. In fact you can eat in a half dozen Hanover restaurants for less).

Glad that we tried it, but we will not be returning.

This property seems very new and clean. We've used it multiple times for visits to a nearby college. Facilities are all quite nice, but the greeting at the desk has been inconsistent. Sometimes friendly. One time downright curt and annoyed. In any case, not consistently the level of many other Courtyards. We've only used breakfast service once, and the food was good, but it took a while to get a bill, and it was big one. Margarita's restaurant is a short walk for dinner, and there is a whole foods type of grocery in the same plaza, but take care crossing the road up to the hospital. The cars move quickly. Also, bring a coat. It was snowing in April.

We have become avid Big Green Football fans and attend most home games. The staff has now gotten to know us and bend over backwards to make sure we are well taken care of. BUT the nicest thing is they treated us this way from our first stay when they had no idea we would be frequent guests.
Great location and great hotel for the area.

Perhaps the best "Courtyard" that we have stayed in. Greg at the front desk was helpful and very pleasant. Rooms were well decorated and functionally excellent. Beds were very, very comfortable.Breakfast was terrific. If you are visiting a patient at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical ask for the "patient referral" rate. You will be VERY happy with it. We recommend this place highly.
