Bought a groupon coupon for the CMI. We wanted to upgrade the room, and pay the difference but that wasnt allowed? They also wouldnt let you chose river view/garden view Or king/queen bed... I am very saddened as I have heard this place is very nice. I will be returning my groupon and looking for a more accommodating place.

Room Tip: Doesnt mater, they dont let you choose your own room.

My wife and I have eaten here twice. Prior to them coming to Claremont, we heard many, many wonderful things about the Common Man. The first time we went, after having such high expectations, we were disappointed with the quality of the food and the length of time it took for our meal to be served. However, since rarely get out, we enjoyed talking. Tonight, when we went, the service was slow and the food was fine...nothing to write home about. If we didn't have a gift card, we probably would have gone somewhere else.

My husband and I spent three nights at the Common Man in late September. We had a room overlooking the Sugar River. Great large room and great view. The hotel is in a unique set of buildings, with a nice lobby (very cute dog mascot!) and friendly staff. We ate at the restaurant twice for dinner and had very good food. The breakfast that comes with the room, also at the restaurant, was very good. Lots of typical contintental breakfast options but done well and the food was all very good quality. The hotel is, as one writer mentioned, in a so-so town but the central location at the convergence of several local highways makes it a great location to explore Vermont and New Hampshire. The only noise we experienced was one night when a group of people came back to a room and were obviously partying. Not much a hotel can do about that. We enjoyed the hotel and restaurant and will definitely return. Wonderful ambience.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the river - great view and drowns out any other noise.

Really nice hotel, and a decent value to boot. Beautiful interior restoration of what must have been a very impressive industrial river-mill complex at the turn of the 20th century. Lots of exposed wood and brick. Everyone is super nice. There's a very good detached restaurant that also overlooks the Sugar river falls (the water falls are small--don't get excited). Restaurant even has a very good beer and wine selection. It's good that it's just a few feet from the main hotel.

What's surreal is the rest of the town doesn't reflect the sort of nice, calm, competent quaintness of this hotel. It's a bit depressing out there (icy winter days don't help that feeling). The nearby downtown has seen better days--local merchants making a go of the old (and what must have been thriving) downtown area while being pummeled by the gargantuan WalMart down the road.

Anyway--highly recommended. The pizza place (Raimuntos) at the end of the street is also very good.

As for rooms--we've stayed in suites and this time in a room just off the lobby. Don't recommend the latter, as there is a degree of late night commotion and chatter that will disturb a light sleeper. The suites are the way to go, if you can reserve one.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms just off the lobby if you're a light sleeper.

We did not start off our trip expecting to stay at the Common Man. We were in Claremont for a wedding of a dear friend. A last minute change of plans caused us to call the Common Man looking for a room and they were able to accommodate our request. Upon arrival we were given the Claremont suite. A large room looking out at the waterfalls. The room had an extremely comfortable king size bet. A pull out couch, a gas fireplace, The bathroom had a jetted tub. We were extremely comfortable.

Let me say the staff at the front desk were very helpful with every aspect of our stay. On their recommendation we ate in the inn restaurant. Our table of 7 totally enjoyed every aspect of the meal. I had the pot roast and it exceeded my expectations.

A continental breakfast was served in the morning and once again it exceeded my expectations. There was a huge selection of tasty pateries and other treats.

We can't wait until we return to this area and have the opportunity to spend more than one night at this fabulous inn.

Room Tip: I don't think you can go wrong with any of the rooms, 2nd floor is the best
