Stayed at The Orleans for 4 nights beginning on New Years Eve. This is a great location for the price. It is not right on the strip, but they provide a shuttle to the Strip every half-hour until 12:30 am. However, NOT ON NEW YEARS EVE. Vegas blocks off the strip for a giant street party on New Years Eve so the last shuttle is about 5:30 pm. If you stay at The Orleans on New Years Eve you need to plan on leaving the property early for the Strip. After about 6 pm a taxi cannot even get you close. Also, it is almost impossible to get a taxi after the fireworks.

The Orleans has many excellent places to eat at a budget price. The rooms are large and the staff is very responsive. We had a problem with the sink and called for maintenance. They showed up almost immediately to fix it.

I did not like the Poker Room, however, because they clearly cater to a large group of regular players. In their tournaments they rake off a portion of the entry fee to pay a $100,000 prize to the best poker player of the season. Unless you play there 3 or 4 times a week for several months you will not qualify for this award.

I will stay there again, but not on New Years Eve.

First of all at check-in I was informed that there will be an additional charge of $5.00 a day for services that I hadn't plan to use.
Second, the heating unit in our room was busted and kept us up all night. After complaining the following morning, a maintenance crew came and replaced the unit. However, during the middle of the second night that unit went out also. Early that morning, a crew was sent to replace the unit along with the thermostat. The problem was finally corrected and we were finally able to get some sleep. The hotel however, never offered a room change or voucher for a meal or anything.
Thirdly, we attempted to utilize the wifi service which was a joke. Why? We were only able to get about 20 mins. of usage at a time before we were kicked off and had to reboot. After day two, we called for assistance and was told that the problem would be rectify. Guess what? It wasn't but we were still charge $11.99.
The food quality has really diminished. I stayed here about three years ago and came home bragging about the buffet. I was very disappointed with what I ate this visit (breakfast and lunch).
However, one thing hadn't changed. I was still unable to win anything gambling (table and slot).
Lastly, the morning of my departure on the way to breakfast near the elevator, the cleaning crew was scrubbing the carpet where someone had defecated. Talk about a messy trip! I was told that the hotel was under new ownership and I really saw a difference. We will definitely NOT stay again.

We had our family reunion at the Orleans a few years ago and it was an experience and stay that most of our relatives; reflect back on and remember what a wonderful reunion we had that year in Las Vegas to this very day.

A couple of weeks ago has shown what a couple of years of neglect will do for what was once a three, if not four star hotel, at a remarkably reasonable price hotel on the southern end of the famous Las Vegas strip.

We stayed from Monday, Christmas Eve through Monday, New Years Eve and the experience was something out of a vacation from hell skit.

Upon check in on Christmas Eve, we had the pleasure of trying to sleep in a room who’s HVAC system would rival a semi-tractor trailer’s Thermo-King unit! It was a disaster! No longer able to stand the noise any longer, a trip was made to the front desk at 6:30am. No, no offer was made to move us to another room, but they “would send someone from engineering” up to the room to look at the matter at hand.

We spent the entire Christmas morning with the maintenance staff while we witnessed an “HVAC unit and thermostat” exchange. It was well after 1:00pm when we finally had our room back to ourselves. It may have been 2:00pm when the room finally warmed and our hearing returned. Yes, that unit was that loud the previous night!

The “New Unit” was a bit quieter that the unit that was swapped-out, but not by much. Well, this reprieve last for one day.

And then there was the Wireless Internet for $12 a day. Just be prepared to get about 5 minutes of normal usage out of it before you will spend hours of not getting a signal, or if you do, losing it consistently. Our record had to show about fifty to seventy times of logging onto the server on a daily basis. All of these attempts in the name of finding a sporting event that was not listed in the local directory. Want to check your emails? Forget about it! Just check them when you return home, on a SECURE server!

It was Thursday morning now and we placed another call to the front desk because the HVAC system was extremely loud and noisy. We were again, privy to not only one, but two separate maintenance crews that morning. We finally had a “normal” HVAC system for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Too bad we checked out Monday morning……………

While Checking out Monday morning, we were never asked if any of our issues were resolved to our satisfaction.

We were not compensated for the $48 wireless charge which only gave more than 20 minutes of continuous uninterrupted service on Saturday between 4am and 6am. The rest of the wireless experience was an embarrassment to the Boyd’s Gaming chain!

We were not offered any discount for housing some of the hotels staff for two mornings, while addressing a problem that no guest should ever have to. We are shocked and very disappointed by our treatment and the condition of the Orleans in this day and time. I don’t if we will witness an implosion of it from our local newscast anytime soon, but that was the LAST TIME we will set foot in that place again ever!

We come to Las Vegas 3 times a year. We know a lot of people who know we visit that often for so many years now. When they ask, they will be told to avoid the Orleans at all cost unless you’re just looking for place to flop-out for the time you will spend in Vegas to party. And party hard!

By that last and closing statement, and this is not a lie, someone turned to hallway outside of our room into a toilet. Yes, the number two was in the entire “lounge seating area” right outside of our door! Do the hotel security cams in the hallways really work?

We (husband and I) stayed at The Orleans to play in a slot tournament. We received an offer for $99 which included the slot tournament entry fee and a 3 night stay. There is also a $5/day resort fee which includes access to their spa and 30 minutes a day free internet service. There are several restaurants, something for everyone from The Prime Rib Loft to Terrible Mikes (fast food). Everyone we encountered there was very friendly. The rooms were big enough and featured a small sitting area with loveseat. Bathrooms featured a small window off the shower which was nice to let in fresh air. We had a non-smoking room but we could smell smoke when walking through the hallway. The Dancing with the Stars tour was performing there and that was an awesome show! Even though The Orleans is off the strip we would definitely stay there again. They offer free shuttle service to the strip and to the Gold Coast. We never had trouble getting on a shuttle.

This hotel is a very good family-friendly option if you don't mind staying off the Las Vegas Strip. The rooms are clean and spacious. Various dining facilities include a decent buffet, japanese/chinese, TGIF, Subway, various bars, and an all-night diner. On-site, there is a bowling alley, movie theaters, kiddie play area, video arcade, spa, and, of course, the casino to pass the time. Did not use but from our room the pool area looks really nice with a large jacuzzi and even kiddie pool. You could spend a whole day just on the property if you wanted. They do have a shuttle to the Strip (Bill's Gambling Hall stop) which we did not use.

Some negatives: The key cards required a few attempts before the door opened. Family-friendly to a point - it's still Las Vegas and the casino air is smokey as most are.

One odd thing re: our bathroom : It had a sliding pocket door that did not lock and you had to open a small window in near the bathtub for ventilation. Not a huge issue for us, just odd.
