We had our family reunion at the Orleans a few years ago and it was an experience and stay that most of our relatives; reflect back on and remember what a wonderful reunion we had that year in Las Vegas to this very day.
A couple of weeks ago has shown what a couple of years of neglect will do for what was once a three, if not four star hotel, at a remarkably reasonable price hotel on the southern end of the famous Las Vegas strip.
We stayed from Monday, Christmas Eve through Monday, New Years Eve and the experience was something out of a vacation from hell skit.
Upon check in on Christmas Eve, we had the pleasure of trying to sleep in a room who’s HVAC system would rival a semi-tractor trailer’s Thermo-King unit! It was a disaster! No longer able to stand the noise any longer, a trip was made to the front desk at 6:30am. No, no offer was made to move us to another room, but they “would send someone from engineering” up to the room to look at the matter at hand.
We spent the entire Christmas morning with the maintenance staff while we witnessed an “HVAC unit and thermostat” exchange. It was well after 1:00pm when we finally had our room back to ourselves. It may have been 2:00pm when the room finally warmed and our hearing returned. Yes, that unit was that loud the previous night!
The “New Unit” was a bit quieter that the unit that was swapped-out, but not by much. Well, this reprieve last for one day.
And then there was the Wireless Internet for $12 a day. Just be prepared to get about 5 minutes of normal usage out of it before you will spend hours of not getting a signal, or if you do, losing it consistently. Our record had to show about fifty to seventy times of logging onto the server on a daily basis. All of these attempts in the name of finding a sporting event that was not listed in the local directory. Want to check your emails? Forget about it! Just check them when you return home, on a SECURE server!
It was Thursday morning now and we placed another call to the front desk because the HVAC system was extremely loud and noisy. We were again, privy to not only one, but two separate maintenance crews that morning. We finally had a “normal” HVAC system for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Too bad we checked out Monday morning……………
While Checking out Monday morning, we were never asked if any of our issues were resolved to our satisfaction.
We were not compensated for the $48 wireless charge which only gave more than 20 minutes of continuous uninterrupted service on Saturday between 4am and 6am. The rest of the wireless experience was an embarrassment to the Boyd’s Gaming chain!
We were not offered any discount for housing some of the hotels staff for two mornings, while addressing a problem that no guest should ever have to. We are shocked and very disappointed by our treatment and the condition of the Orleans in this day and time. I don’t if we will witness an implosion of it from our local newscast anytime soon, but that was the LAST TIME we will set foot in that place again ever!
We come to Las Vegas 3 times a year. We know a lot of people who know we visit that often for so many years now. When they ask, they will be told to avoid the Orleans at all cost unless you’re just looking for place to flop-out for the time you will spend in Vegas to party. And party hard!
By that last and closing statement, and this is not a lie, someone turned to hallway outside of our room into a toilet. Yes, the number two was in the entire “lounge seating area” right outside of our door! Do the hotel security cams in the hallways really work?
