recently stayed at New York New York in las vegas ideally suited for all shows and shops straight out the hotel entrance straight onto las vegas strip. if booking a helicopter trip its best to book through hotel as when buying tickets for the helicopter ride on the strip from the shops they might seem cheaper but they dont include airport tax which you have to pay before you get on the helicopter. we used Maverick very good even picked you up and dropped you back to your hotel. room was very comfy. if you play the slots and the waitress offers you a drink the drink is free you just tip her a dollar a drink. the food mall across the road very good chinese panda express also a subway there as well.

We stayed at New York, New York for a week (January 2011) as we were attending a convention.. Upon checkin they said the nonsmoking room we had booked was not available so had to check to see what else was available. Customer service person went to the back to speak with a manager and we waited for a good 10+ minutes--seemed like a used car salesman scene as she came back and offered to waive the $15 day resort fee and did locate an upgraded room that cost a bit more.....
On the plus side, there are 2 Starbucks located in the hotel and room service was actually the best meal we ate all week--the macaroni and cheese was to die for believe it or not! Also, the transportation (tram station)to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center is literally across the street. Negatives were the restaurants in the hotel were all a really poor version of Friday's all frozen and then microwaved meals plus the check in process was slow and cost more than when we had booked the room online.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better the view of the strip!

Went for short get away on Tues-Thurs. Casino 70% empty. Bars half full. Mostly families roaming about. Understand why Vegas economy down.
Felt like Disneyland instead of Vegas.
Food & drink expensive.
Rather go to Mexico or Central America.

And our first impression of New York New York was excellent. Right from the start we were given excellent service and accomodations. We stayed here under the "Friends & Family" package and the rates were very reasonable. The restaurants were all very good to dine in, the whole facility is clean and we were treated with utmost respect our entire stay. The best part was upon our final night, we proceeded to cash in our reward points after 4 days of sight-seeing and casino hopping and Chris at the MLife counter could not have been more helpful. He did everything he could to apply as much comp points to our stay as possible and was kind and congenial during the whole process. It was good to depart on such a positive note. My wife and I would recommend this hotel and casino to anyone.

Just spent 5 nights at the New York New York in Las Vegas. The room was extremely clean, but it was only serviceable. The hotel lobby is quite dark and dank, but it is not as smokey as many of the other hotels. There are very, very limited eating options for anything other than fast food. Even the "eat in" establishments feel like fast food. There is a quite good option of Il Fornaio both restaurant and bakery. The bakery has extremely good pastries and coffee that is not the typical Starbuck. The pizza shop has some of the worst pizza I have ever tasted - dough laden and flavorless. Eating elsewhere was the only course of action after the second day.

Now to the room... As stated, it was extremely clean in all aspects, but it is quite dated. The bathroom was serviceable but had no ventilation at all. The shower nozzle fell off one morning and it was covered in crusty water deposits. It was replaced while we were out that day. I cannot complain about the hotel staff at all. They were very courteous and prompt.

There were several days that I had to call housekeeping to ask for items that were not replenished in the room. The room is equipped with very, very short drinking glasses. I called and asked for two tall glasses and was told they would send them up for a charge of $9.81. I opted to buy a to-go drink at McDonald's and keep the cup for free.

There is a $20 charge per day for the internet and spa use. The original charge is slated as $18 but there is an additional $2 tax et al. The hotel doesn't nickel and dime you to death, but they are less than transparent in their costs.

If I had my choice I would not choose to stay here again. I would opt for the Bellagio or one of the 5 star hotels especially if I knew I would be spending any time at all in my room doing work or business. All-in-all, on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the highest, I would rate the New York New York at about a 6. Average and serviceable but nothing outstanding, excellent service and staff, but hidden charges abound, so be cautious and enjoy your stay in Las Vegas!

Room Tip: ask for a high floor away from the elevator.
