Location is great...next to Hooters easy walking distance to the strip. Off street parking. Good security. Very clean. Large rooms with kitchen facilities. Excellent breakfast but could be crowded and needed to queue.

We have stayed here twice now and are still very happy with this resort. It is well situated( one block east from MGM at the South end of the strip) and about 10 minutes walk from the strip. The resort has condo style units, roomy, comforable, wonderful fully equiped kitchens, big bathroom area, table and chairs, lounge area, and good bedrooms with comforable beds with good condition linen. Each condo has a small balcony with outdoor chairs- a nice place to enjoy a drink. The only negative comment I could make about the units would be, a coat of new lighter colour paint would give a fresh modern look. The pool area is lovely, the laundry is good, the front desk staff are friendly and good, the breakfast was just fine for our needs(others may want and expect more) not sure about the plastic cutlery and poly plates though! Never the less we are very happy with what this resort offers and the value for money.
Can I make special mention of the concierge desk located across from reception. The fabulous lady Carrie at that desk will turn herself inside out to give excelent advice, make bookings for you, make phone calls to ensure her information is current, find a shop that has what you want to buy and give you a detailed map of how to get there, and all this is done so willingly, with a smile, and you get the feeling that all she wants is to know you have had a good time seeing and doing all you can on vacation. Thank you Carrie for your help and friendship while we were at the Desert Rose- you are a truely fabulous lady and an asset to the resort- don't ever loose that georgous personality and keep on smiling- you made our vacation for us

Room Tip: top floor condo has no noise from above, however we were second floor and it was fine- just the noise of tiolet flush now and then from above

The Desert Rose Resort is great. The location is perfect if you want to be close enough to the action (5-7 minute walk) but also far enough away from the noise. It's very clean with nice rooms and free parking. It ticked all of the boxes I was looking for. The pool area is also very nice.

We booked this on a Black Friday special and were very surprised by its homely qualities in the middle of the glitz and glamor in Vegas. Located one block off the strip, it was close enough to enjoy but not be engulfed by the bright lights and colors. The suites were clean and spacious. The bathroom was small but adequate. The bed was firm and comfy but the pillows were just too thick. Parking was free, as was the simple breakfast. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from Reno as there may be sirens in the middle of the night.

OK. This was my third stay at the Desert Rose resort, and each time it got better as I learned the ropes. So, let me share a few ideas:

The DR is located a block and a half from the Strip, an easy walk to the Luxor, Mandalay Bay, etc. The entire complex is gated, which lends a real feeling of security. Unlike some of the hotels on the strip, you don't have to walk forever through smoky casinos and by a bevy of timeshare salesmen. Your room is a condo, one-bedroom or two. There was a kingsize bed in our room, and it was quite comfortable. The closet contained a safe, which was a plus. Two televisions provide entertainment in the evenings if you're too tired to head out. There is a living room and kitchen, where you have a refrigerator, coffee maker, blender, microwave, dish washer, stove, etc. They provide a small bottle of liquid soap for dish washing and one soap tablet for the dishwasher. The cabinets and drawers contain dishes, glasses, and eating utensils. We drove to an Albertsons on Flamingo for groceries (great way to save money), but the Vons grocery store is actually closer and in a better neighborhood. I believe the Vons is on Tropicana.
Speaking about streets, there are two main streets which run parallel and are major arteries to Las Vegas Boulevard. The DR is accessible to both. Take a left out of the front parking lot and then a right onto Tropicana (takes you away from the Strip.) If you want to go to Flamingo, take a left out of the front parking lot, a right on Tropicana, and immediate left onto Koval, and then a final left onto Flamingo. Koval connects the two roads.
If you want to get to the Strip quickly, particularly if you want to visit the southern end, take a right out of the parking lot and get on Reno. It takes you directly to the Strip.
The DR has the friendliest staff I have ever experienced, from the check-in crew at the front desk to the room attendants. I never walked by a person without a "Good Morning" or "Hello." Carrie, the concierge, is amazing. She got us two-for-one tickets to Madame Tussard's Wax Museum and $25 tickets to the Legends show at the Harrah. Great seats, by the way. She's an expert on the area.
Then there are the "freebies" at the hotel. You have a complimentary breakfast, which is particularly good on the mornings they serve scrambled eggs. They're real eggs and are yummy. I wasn't impressed with the waffles, but, then, I'm not a waffle person. There is always cold cereal and Muselix, as well as juice, coffee, soft drinks, and packages to make hot chocolate, tea, etc. Likewise, there is a complimentary "happy hour" on Monday-Friday, beginning at 5 p.m. Here there is a smaller selection of snacks and free beer and soft drinks. You might want to bring some change to tip the attendant, but that's up to you. It's one of the few areas where you can even tip.
Couple of hints about timing....which is everything in Vegas. At the DR the early bird truly gets the worm. It can get crowded, especially during the in-season, and you will avoid lines and lack of seating if you keep that in mind. There are places to eat in the lobby and close outside, but they fill up quickly. Pointer: try not to sit at the tables on the side of the hotel. For some reason that particular area smelled. Some people also smoked over there. I'm a non-smoker, and the hotel is smoke free, so I didn't appreciate that. (Sorry smokers, but that's how I see it.)
Early arrival is also a must if you want to sun by the pool before about 2 p.m. The pool is small, but it's really nice. We were there in April and had no problems finding a place to sun, but that is a different situation during the high season. There is also a hot tub and barbecue area, the latter a particular advantage if you're trying to feed a family. Between the kitchen and BBQ grills, there is little reason to go to the restaurants, which can range from reasonable to over the top.
The hotel has free Wi-Fi (they'll give you a password) and one computer in the lobby.
The DR is truly a family hotel. When we were there, a busload of teenagers arrived, and while we saw them at the pool, we never heard them while in our room ...and they were on our floor! Either good room insulation or outstanding kids....not sure!
Guess that about does it! Have a great trip to Las Vegas. Keep safe, and have fun!

Room Tip: Third floor is quieter because of no one above you, but the A/C is noisy. We asked for a quiet room when we checked in, and it was great.
