A nice resort located far from the strip in a fairly upscale area with good shopping and restaurants, and Red Rocks Park and Mountains nearby. The grounds are beautiful, with great pool area. We usually stay at Red Rock Casino, and in comparison, the JW Marriott seems very conservative and a bit out-dated. As another reviewer noted, the hotel also seemed rather huge and empty - especially the restaurants which were empty and had that boring basic 'overpriced hotel restaurant' look to them. I'm not a gambler but walking through the casino was disgusting - it smelled like smoke and was full of sad old people on oxgyen machines playing loud childish- looking slot machines (but maybe that's all casinos I don't know)
The spa was very nicely appointed but not well staffed - they seemed to have only one person in the lady's spa so no one was at the desk and there were dirty towels everywhere. But loved the outdoor spa and cool spa pools.
Our room was large but nothing that special, and the first room we checked into smelled like smoke even though we requested a non-smoking room, so we had to go through the hassle of changing rooms.
Customer service was fine, although not stellar. Our rooms weren't cleaned until late in the day (after 2:00 pm), and the employees in the spa did not seem familar with the workings of the hotel or the spa (did not know when/how much classes were; told us there was a free shuttle to the airport and we didn't need reservations - when it was $30 and reservations were needed!)
Overall, a great deal for the price and well worth it if the weather is good!

Room Tip: Request no smoking rooms and check before you go up that your room is smoke free! Ask for pool-side...

As it was my first time in Vegas I wasn't sure what to expect. I was there for a conference and to play golf and didn't know where "Summerlin" was but I'm 100% sure I'm coming back. The location is perfect for great golf choices, terrific restaurants and shopping and easy access to major highways to get to other areas (i.e. The Strip, etc.). Rent a car for sure so you can get around - self-parking at The Marriott is easy and convenient. The rooms are gigantic, service was attentive and pool area was gorgeous. The hotel is a popular one for weddings to try and stay in a room that is not at the end of a hall where it appears they keep the larger suites for groups. And if you're having an event there, the suites are to die for...the one on the 4th floor is one I could move right into full time. The bedding, towels, bathroom size, patio (juliette balcony), overall space is perfect and worth every penny.

Room Tip: Try not to stay at the end of the hallways where the large suites are (where wedding parties were st...

I thought this hotel was gorgeous!! Everything decorated so nicely. And it didnt lack in space anywhere. You felt like you were in a palace!! Lobby and grounds were pristine. I remember a nice fountain. I didnt dine there in a restaurant but the food by pool was fine. It did take them a while to see me at pool. While in vegas I also stayed at the mirage and this jw was better! You are away from the crowds of las vegas and yet close too if u you want to head out an see everything.
The spa was nice. The spa pool was interesting. I did like it. More crowded then i wouldve liked for a small pool. The big pool was very pretty it had a waterfall.. The people were helpful enough. The room was immaculate huge and gorgeous with the nicest bathroom i have ever seen! We had a great view from our room of vegas!! I loved my stay here. Highly recommend!!!!!

We have stayed on the strip @ Aria,Bellagio,Wynn, etc. - This resort is a nice option to stay away from all the craziness- The property is quite nice and well maintained - You can look out your balcony and see the red rocks/mountains so that you actually feel like you are at a true resort - The spa was lovely as well as the golf option at private TPC course. Pool area was large and very nice. Not a gambler but having to walk through the casino constantly is a downer - mostly seniors puffing away on cigarettes tooling around on their scooters! (ironically the hotel itself is smoke-free)- The buffet is a bit of a nightmare - lots of local seniors taking advantage of the cheap meals. I understand that appealing to seniors is a viable way to stay solvent but it creates an atmosphere that is depressing and not attractive to guests that are paying a premium to stay there. On site dining is not very impressive and about what you would expect from a Marriott- If you are looking for a nice family vacation spot(Spring Break for example) OR a nice relaxing option to the craziness of the strip(golf & spa) - this is a great option.
There is NO nightlife here - although we had a great time at the Irish pub - they have an impressive band of former rock musicians who play on Sat & Weds nights- they were a blast!
I will say that the drive down to the strip for shows or shopping can get rather crazy- only 10-15 minutes away! - They have finally greatly improved the roads to get to the strip, however the signage is horrible. Add that to the fact that 75% of the people you are on the road with have no idea where they are going and you have a nerve-wracking,nail-biting crap shoot on your hands! - a word to the wise-- if you do not function well in absurd traffic situations and have no patience, my suggestion is to stay on the strip so that walking from point A to point B is the lesser of two evils. Forget your navigation system and your google map i-phone app - it is a challenge to get from the strip back to the JW Marriott/Summerlin after dark! -
We enjoyed our stay @ this resort as we were looking for a more quiet, relaxed option. If you want to stay out of the insanity of the strip (especially if you have young kids) this is the only option -"Lake Las Vegas", in Henderson is evidently done.

Room Tip: Had a junior suite on 3rd floor - looking toward the back courtyard- very pretty and peaceful view.

This is a very nice place. It is quite a ways out. Be prepared for a long drive or taxi ride (and expensive) if you want to get to the Strip. The distance out helps with the quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The spa, work out facilities and pool are all very nice. The staff was great. My only criticism is that some parts of the hotel show a little wear. Most of it remains very nice elegent. I would definitely stay there again alone on business or with my wife.
