“I hoped to go back again!”
Reviewed 4 July 2012

I was here with my fiance in April. We were attending a wedding at the MGM. I stayed in a whirlpool suite. From what we heard amongst our friends we had the largest room of the group. I loved it, the view was amazing. The room was very clean and comfortable. I did look around but since we were part of a group we almost never hung out at the Luxor. I would like to go back and spend more time there. The food at the buffet in the lower level was awesome, the restaurant was very cool. I loved the theme and decor. I gambled a bit and won, some of our friends won a lot and said it was the best on the strip for craps. I had a great time and I wasn't even a "vegas person" when I started out on this trip. It was amazing and had a great pool!!

Being a larger on the strip hotel I was expecting much more.

We had to change rooms because the first one smelled so strongly of old cigarettes. When we called the front desk and asked for a new room they said it was a non smoking floor and shouldn't smell (this is Vegas- people don't follow the rules), but did we want air deodorizer? I considered this, but the smell was coming from the linens, curtains... Everywhere.
When we did finally get the new room it was musty smelling, but I didn't want to be that ultra annoying guest so we stayed. Discovered damp carpet and mold on the shower ceiling later in the evening, and the furniture was damaged and run down.
Housekeeping also "walked in" on our friends at 7pm which seemed a little shady as they had the do not disturb sign up.

Good pool and decent buffet, but I'd pay the extra $20 and stay somewhere else.

We were in floor 13 of west wing, hotel enormus, clean rooms were great, But we kept getting lost on the ground floor! I loved the pool area, tho it was a fare walk frm reception. You must have ID to get a drink at the pool bar, even though we were there for my 50th?? Plenty of towels, toiletries, hairdryer, enormus shower, No fridge or tea/coffee facilities. Over all very good, but they were having a heatwave in June temps 109deg at 2pm! 97deg at 9pm.

Room Tip: Dont think itr matters, theres no balconeys. Though the pyrimid shape does make you feel funny when...

So this is our 2nd time staying at the Luxor from 28/05/12 to 05/06/12 and this time we got married there also!!
We did not get any upgrades unfortunately but the luxury suite which we had paid for was still as nice. We arrived to find that the world largest Jewellery Convention was taking place at the Mandalay Bay and most of the delegates were staying at the Luxor, so it kinda felt we weren't as important as the convention people.
The room surcharge which is payable on arrival has increased from $92 (Sept 2010) to $135. Bottled water in the hotel is now $4, and the food portions are a little smaller but the prices remain the same/slightly increased.
The two biggest price increases in the hotel is the charge for using the ATM at a whopping $4.99 pertransaction so if you need to withdraw cash, make sure it's a worthwhile amount!! Big increase no.2 is the pool area which was free (excepting the cabanas and premium loungers) is now $10 per person per day. There is a "free" sunbathing area but it's located conveniently by the pool bar that charges a pretty penny for all drinks. And the sunloungers are so crammed into this "retail" area that you can't really relax as you are always surrounded by some loud person!
On a much better note our wedding at the Luxor chapel was amazing - couldn't have asked for a better day! I had pre-arranged everything with the wedding planner via email and phone from the UK. We booked the Pearl package with the Silver photo upgrade to include guests, live internet broadcast and for the ceremony to be on their site for 60 days. Oh and I upgraded the bouquet to a 9" arrangement with Hydrangeas, tulips, lisathus and spray roses in a lavender and blue floral scheme - they were beautiful and well worth the extra.
The wedding went without a hitch, the minister was a wonderful lady who made us feel relaxed (the alcohol had kicked in but the nerves hadn't settled!) And our photographer was amazing - he took a lot of photo's but we hardly noticed his presence. After the ceremony we then had another 30 minutes or so for photos and we weere escorted across the hall to a studio where we got more amazing shots. The wedding package included 12 4"x6" enlargements and extras can be purchased. Beware!! These were really pricey and although the saleswoman was lovely, she wanted us to purchase the lot (usually valued at $3600!!) for $1400 on the day of viewing - $1400?? In a recession?? Is she mad?? We did like more than 12 so we purchased them individually to the cost of $135 which was a lot more reasonable for our budget.
The hotel atmosphere was lovely after we got married and both staff and guests shouted their "Congratulations" at us which made a girl feel like a proper princess!
This was a trip to remember and although we went all out with the spending - it was for a good cause. We think that we will visit another hotel when we return to Las Vegas, not that we didn't enjoy our stay - we did but we got better service the first time around than for this visit which was for an extra special occasion.

Room Tip: East tower has better views but West tower is closer to the Spa and the pool area. Pyramid rooms ar...
