Walking through the park on the ridge overlooking Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne) was amazing. The views were endless. Even though others were walking the trail, it did not seem crowded, and there were plenty of quiet moments.

Beautiful!

We stayed two nights in June 2013 (out of season) for a christening held nearby. It is high up and out of season there is not much else going on at the resort. There is a town at the bottom of the hill (Stans) so as long as you have a car you are fine. We had one dinner there and it was very good. Staff were friendly and generally English speaking. The views are fabulous and we woke to sounds of cow bells and birds. The rooms are modern with a simple décor. Free wi-fi. The breakfast was a little limited (continental style) but we were about the only ones at the hotel at the time - it was still enough for us. Note there is no lift - it is a 2 storey building.

We began staying in this place about 1982. It was part of a family-owned complex of hotels and restaurants dating from the late 1800's. It includes a portion of the Swiss national hiking trail that is unique in the world. The "Club", a pool/restaurant/sports facility for members (and a few hotel guests) was a world-class facility.

For most of the last 30 years it was owned by a Swiss consortium ("Rosebud") that kept it up OK. Unfortunately, toward the end of their tenure, Rosebud hired on east German staff that pretty much ruined the experience.

Then the complex was sold to a middle-east sovereign fund that imagined it was obsolete, and needed to be refurbished. It was closed for a few years, then opened, then closed again about 2 years ago. Now it is touted as a near scrape-off, again to be rebuilt.

No gain for anyone, especially us who knew it when.

Room Tip: Hope it will be sold again...

if you are interested by the future of hotels in Switzerland, pay a visit to the Buergenstock, the location stays amazing years after years but recently investors are spending millions to renovate, build, developp a new outstanding hotel site. the taverne hotel has been renovated first and the rooms are nice and cosy,
the rooms are fairly small but the nice wood floor and furniture leaves you with a good impression

Room Tip: try to have a room with the view over the fields
