We were beckoned to this museum after spotting its replica Prairie Pioneer church and barn from the road. Upon arrival, we realized that there is quite a lot to see. There is a museum that boasts an interesting art collection. There is a native american exhibit, gift shop, cafe and replica prairie village. My 6 year old daughter loved talking to the costumed workers who told her about prairie life. This was a great last minute stop and extremely educational.

My wife and I had been traveling and spent July 4 in Grand Island, NE. Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer had festivities scheduled for the day. First on the list was a 10 AM church service in GERMAN! There was an English translator. We also sang along with the organist playing a pump organ. Not A/C, but we were handed fans. The bulletin was printed in both German and English. Part of the time, we sang in German. For some reason the volume of the singing decreased. Hmmm.

There was supposed to be an anvil shoot but the man who was the "blacksmith" tried twice and reported it was too hot. We toured the old shops. I was very impressed at how Railroad Town was laid out and the businesses that were represented.

The main building was neat and clean. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in early American history.

Our family loves going to these wonderful reenactment places. They had some great information and exhibits. There were plenty of people at the different sites to answer questions, but didn't always engage us in offering information.

Still, we really liked the place and make sure to leave at least 3 hours to fully experiences this wonderful place.

Plan on spending a minimum of 2 to 3 hours here. There is plenty to see – great art, many artifacts, an outside exhibit with an old town and railroad, and then some. It's a very beautiful museum and very well cared for.
