My wife and I had been traveling and spent July 4 in Grand Island, NE. Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer had festivities scheduled for the day. First on the list was a 10 AM church service in GERMAN! There was an English translator. We also sang along with the organist playing a pump organ. Not A/C, but we were handed fans. The bulletin was printed in both German and English. Part of the time, we sang in German. For some reason the volume of the singing decreased. Hmmm.
There was supposed to be an anvil shoot but the man who was the "blacksmith" tried twice and reported it was too hot. We toured the old shops. I was very impressed at how Railroad Town was laid out and the businesses that were represented.
The main building was neat and clean. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in early American history.
