We arrived at Yellowstone National Park without reservations and, of course, the place was booked solid, even in late September. So, we drove into West Yellowstone since that’s the most convenient gateway city. There are places on the main drag – Yellowstone Avenue – but after some searching online, we chose the Holiday Motel. It’s a nice quiet budget motel located a few blocks from the rest.
The room we had was very roomy and comfortable. The two double beds were covered with beautiful quilts and it felt very homelike. The bathroom looked brand new and was very clean with a nice shower. The room had a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, things we always find useful.
One possible downside for some is that the room just had a simple lock in the doorknob. There was no extra bolt lock or chain lock. We weren’t concerned but some might not like that. We stayed three nights and were very comfortable.
In addition to the quiet, another nice thing about the location of the Holiday Motel is that it’s only about a block from a great breakfast place, the Running Bear Pancake House.
