So...I came out here to ski last week and stayed at the Summit. Amazing place. It has the old-time feel of a great European alpine hotel, complete with nice restaurants, an indoor-outdoor pool/hot tub, and great, helpful staff. My room had a nice gas fireplace, an extremely comfortable and easy to operate Murphy bed, and a nice warm shower. And a couch, a kitchenette fridge/freezer/microwave. The hotel is at the bottom of two lifts, and the hotel staff will take your skis at the end of a day and keep them for you. The hotel's buffet was delicious, complete with a wide assortment of fruit, delicious oatmeal, a made-to-order omelette bar, and many other choices. I have friends who recommended this place to me, and I have to say it lived up to all of their praises.

Room Tip: My room did not face the main mountain, but still faced other mountains on the back part of the resort. There is no bad view here.

I was surprised by some of the negative reviews. We had a wonderful weeklong stay at the Summit hotel! I thought the decor was fitting for Montana. It felt upscale but not pretentious. The proximity to the slopes was great, and the kids club and bungee trampoline kept our little one busy.

We were really blown away by the warmth and genuine kindness of the staff. Zuki and Scott at Peaks Restaurant connected with our daughter and made her feel special. One of the managers, Todd, made a point of getting to know us and was kind enough treat us to breakfast on our last day. The ski valet, Phil, was always friendly and patient when it took us what felt like forever to get on the slopes every morning with our 4 year old.

Sheila went out of her way to make our stay unforgettable. She gave us access to the child friendly pool in the Huntley as well as the one at the Summit. Every morning she’d check in to see how we were doing and at the end of the trip, she gave my daughter a heartfelt farewell gift.

We truly felt like part of the Big Sky family and can’t wait to return.

Not really worth the price mark-up, despite the friendly staff and great ski valet service (ski down to the back entrance, & leave your skis with them at the end of each day; they will carry them up the little hill for you in the morning). Room types vary; most have comfortable beds, mini-fridge, Keurig; shower/no tub, no microwave, no slippers; robes upon request, walls are thin, neighbors can be very loud. Large breakfast is ok (average eggs, good roast potatoes, cruddy pancakes), but having to check in and sign a bill is a pain. Problems arise with crowds - the hotel is not any more able to handle them than the resort as a whole is - long waits for valet parking ($15/night), bell services, etc...heard several stories of oversold reservations, with people being stuck in smaller rooms, being moved in the middle of their stay, etc. There are no real top-notch hotels in Big Sky, this and the Village Center are the best for ski in/out locations (you can't drive up to the door of the VC though, gotta unload at the Huntley).

You come to Big Sky for the fantastic skiing and mountain and no crowds but unfortunately the hotels if you are looking for 5 star don't exist. The Summit is the best of a lousy lot and expect everything to be sub par. The staff is nice the food average, even the buffet breakfast if you come down later is in the am is in dis array and is a turn off. There is no spa they send you to the Huntley hotel ( which is really dumpy) and the spa is always booked. They never offer on call services. its sad that Big Sky does not have a really first class property but again you just have to get in the mindset you are there for the skiing or summer activities.

We had a great time. This resort is well maintain and very comfortable. It is a little dated and needs some amenities but I’d stay there again. The closeness to the slopes is a huge advantage. The hot tub is a great place to lose track of time when it’s -10 out.
