“The only BW to use in KC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2012

There are quite a few Best Western hotels in KC, but this one is the best. There is a new manager there (been there for almost a year)--so if you read older reviews on tripadvisor just know that it's a whole different deal now. The staff here is very friendly and helpful and the manager is 'one of a kind' and knows how to provide customer service. Staying at a hotel isn't just about amenities and cleanliness but how you're treated. Although my wife and I don't drink there were free drinks from wine to beer at a small reception in the lobby. There is an included breakfast which is really great (hot and cold options)--the only bad part was the small room it was cramped in--but as long as it's not crowded it's not a big deal. The room was super clean and comfy. The only "complaint?" (not sure if that's the right word) is that the television in the room was an old 27" tube TV. Oh well, not a big deal and it still worked fine. I will only use this BW when traveling to KC because the rooms are nice, the staff is great and the manager is amazing--highly recommended.

I made a trip in April specifically for business and then to retrieve two Australian cattle dog puppies. After collecting the puppies, the dilemma of where to stay was certainly eased by this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and very accommodating for my needs with these two very young canines. They even have a pet designated area behind the hotel. I highly recommend this facility if you're traveling with pets!

Room Tip: Request the room on the bottom floor if you have a pet!

I am so happy you found us to be accommodating for your pet friendly needs! We love our furry friends and know that they are a part of the family. What a handful caring for two puppies on the road! We enjoyed having all of you stay with us!

Ran into a few snags during our visit and the staff took care of us, the rooms were adequate, and all advertised was provided, but regrettably I can't say this property wowed me, and I most likely will not choose it again when I return to KC to visit family.

To begin, please note that this hotel is convenient to Country Club Plaza, but the immediate 2-3 blocks surrounding is questionable (random homeless men hanging around, next door to an atypically dirty Quik Trip, across from a seedy liquor store), but at no time did we really feel unsafe, either. It is not convenient to any kind of fast food or casual dining, either, so plan your meals.
Don't bother trying to park in the front of the building if you have anything larger than a compact car. There are only about 20 spots, and the lot is difficult to maneuver in. Be prepared to drop your luggage off in the front of the building and then park around back. There are lots of steps in the back parking, so handling luggage may be difficult from there.
We first arrived a half hour before checkin, and our room wasn't ready. Understandable since that is why there is a check in time, but it's always nice to have your room ready after a long day on the road even if you are a little early. The polite clerk (overly tattooed and making no effort to hide them) let the other waiting travellers that their rooms also would be ready shortly, but then left the desk unattended while she went out to the patio within steps of the lobby to join her coworker for a cigarette break and check her cell phone, letting smoke waft into the lobby where we were waiting.
Once we were able to check in, we were disappointed to learn that the two double beds I had requested the day before was not available. We were told that we would get what we get (a single king) because we booked through a travel site (Hotwire), and I know this is always a risk, so I didn't argue this. However, I wish they wouldn't have told us this the day before if they weren't in a position to accomodate.
When we were issued our room, we found that the hotel was maintained adequately, but not phenomenally. It's an older building, showing its age. I will stop short of calling the hotel dirty, but housekeeping oversights are plenty (sheets on the beds tucked in sloppily, "i love you" appeared in the bathroom mirror when it got steamed up from the shower so it appeared not to have been cleaned, a luggage cart blocked the elevator vestibule and a shower chair sat in the middle of the hallway the duration of our 24 hour visit, etc)
Within an hour after our arrival while getting ready for an evening out, the air conditioner unit began to spark and stopped working. Scary! We finished getting dressed and reported the needed repair to the new desk clerk, who was apologetic, offered bottled water as he could tell we were warm, and promised to have it fixed by the time we returned later in the evening.
When we arrived back to the hotel that night, we were told by a third desk clerk (do they have 3 hour shifts here?), that maintenance came to the room and it was cool enough so all should be OK. However, she did offer to let us change rooms - a room with two beds!!! I thought they weren't available? While this offer was nice since it's what we wanted in the first place, it left us feeling lied to by the initial clerk who said none were available. In the process of changing rooms, I checked the a/c in our original room to find it still not working. Since the next morning we overheard another couple say they were given fans, it seems that weekend maintenance at this property is non-existent.
Ultimately, we ended up in a worn but clean, quiet, restful room for the night.
While the complimentary breakfast seemed lovely (the usual suspects - eggs, waffles, muffins, cereal, breakfast burritos, etc), it all was very picked over and almost gone by 9:15am, so early birds get the worm if you are planning on taking advantage of this feature.

So....while there were mishaps during this stay - and all seemed work out - the staff, the overall wear on this older hotel, and the slightly seedy neighborhood makes me underwhelmed enough not to return.

Thank you for your review, I am glad that your trip worked out generally favorable. However we want all of our guests to be happy with their experience with us. I know Jason, our AGM is always giving referrals for the many restaurants we have surrounding us. It is unfortunate you were not able to experience any of them. There are so many outstanding ones.
Also,If anything was ever questionable with housekeeping we would like to be made aware of it.. I am sorry if someone had written a sentiment on the mirror prior to your stay. That department will be made aware of your observation.
You must have interacted with each of our front desk staff only at different times during their shift. I also want to apologize we could not give you the room type you requested on the original reservation. It became available later in the evening due to someone wanting a King room, therefore the Double opened up for you.
Our breakfast is served 6am to 9am.Unfortunately,there probably wasn't a lot left at 9:15. But we always have fresh fruit, muffins and coffee available.
Again, if there was a problem with maintenence we need to alert our maintenence department. We do have someone on duty during the hours with which you were referring . Unfortunately, some things break at the most inconvenient times. I am glad we could accommodate you , so you ended up having a comfortable stay.
Thank you again for your time we do appreciate your thoughtful comments, and I hope you have safe travels in your future!

We were in Kansas City for a wedding. We stayed at the Best Western Seville because we thought it was a good value. Compared to what friends paid at other locations we are now not so sure.
We paid an average rate of $143 a night over seven nights. This was with a AAA discount. Our friends stayed at the Sheraton in the Plaza, with a pool, better location and amenities for $179 a night with AAA discount. About a $36 more a night difference. Another friend stayed at the Q for just $111 a night, a $32 a night discount to our $143.

At the Best Western we liked the friendly and knowledgeable staff. All of the folks at the desk were always helpful and cheerful. I have to mention Kala because I both spoke over the phone with her before the trip and while we were there. But Kala was not the exception just the norm.

The room and the common areas were all well cared for and maintained. We were in room 414 and it was quiet, dark at night, great A/C unit, very comfortable. The coffee maker was difficult to use and made lousy coffee. There was coffee available in the lobby, which we did not try. There is also a Starbucks two blocks away. The gas station next store had terrible coffee.

There is a corner health food store with coffee, (untried), fresh fruit, and some wholesome snacks.
A store with wine, beer and Liqueur is just across the street.

There is a wonderful path through a park, downhill, to the Plaza. One of the people at the desk told us about this. We always walked to the Plaza and took a taxi back, $7. The path is well used but we do not recommend you using it after dark.

You can also walk to The Nelson-Atkins Museum and The Kemper Museum, and the bus lines are just outside your door, easy to use and an inexpensive way to explore Kansas City without a car.

Another reason we choose this hotel was because they had a free shuttle service with a four mile radius. I called just before we left to be sure about this amenity and was delighted to learn the radius of the service was expanded to ten miles.

When we arrived on Monday, for a weeks stay, we requested the shuttle for Tuesday to go to the NATIONAL WW1 MUSEUM. ahh! the shuttle is only available on Fridays from 4pm to midnight, and on Saturday from 4pm until midnight. Not even close to what we were lead to believe in making a decision about where to stay.

So we resorted to taking the bus, walking, and using taxi's in weather that never got lower than 103 degrees during the day. A balmy 98 at night.

Would we stay there again? Maybe.

Room Tip: We liked room 414.

First, I want to say I am sorry you were not completely satified with your stay! We really want all of our guests to be happy with all aspects of the property. The rate you were given was due to the fact you booked the rooms during an event in town that was close to our property. We pride ourselves on providing a good value for our guests. I wish you had tried the complimentary coffee, it is Kansas City's own Roasterie coffee! Very good! I am glad you enjoyed the walk to the Plaza it is beautiful. And I will pass along your positive comments regarding the staff, thank you. Our shuttle does not usually run on Monday-Thursday, however if we are alerted you need transportation on those days the shuttle can be arranged for you. Thank you again for your time and comments. We would love to have you stay with us again!

Breakfast area is small, but food is fine. The front desk staff, Jason in particular, very helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Lovely walk through park to plaza stores.

Room Tip: Very quiet facing the back. Extra parking behind hotel. Nice little outside patio out back. Lidia...
