This building is beautiful. Nestled in a bustling town square with shopping and services in historic buildings the courthouse is a gem. Inside the old cage elevator as well as exhibits ranging from Route 66 to WWII to the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls provide additional information about the area.

Great architecture in this courthouse! Be sure and go inside. There is a wonderful mural by Lowell Davis as well as a working steel cage elevator, artifacts from the area and more.

The Jasper County courthouse, built in 1898 is a beautiful piece of architecture. The grounds are beautiful but don't miss going inside. The first floor is basically a museum. Tells a lot of history about Route 66 and also Carthage's role in the Civil War

The building is great to look at from the outside but even more fascinating when you enter. On the ground floor in the main hallway are cases filled with historic artifacts. There is a case that shows you the mining history, artifacts from Route 66, an old phone booth, and even a mine from the Spanish American War. One of the most interesting features was the mural of the history of Carthage complete with narration. I strongly recommend checking this building out if you're in town.
